I just got a job as a travel agent. I am currently paid minimum wage. I will start earning commission (not paid until clients complete their travel. However, my employee handbook says I will be "taking a draw" on future commission.
Sooo.....let's say I book trips, but no one travels until at least 3 months from now....all the hours I work up until then will be paid at minimum wage, but when it is time for me to get a commission check, they will deduct the hours for which I was paid minimum wage?
Is this how it is all over?
Is this even legal?
They want me to sign a no compete agreement saying I won't take a job closer than 35 miles away for 3 years, and I am afraid to sign it. I've never worked a commission based job, I HAVE worked as an hourly paid agent, but my agency closed several years ago.
