I am a freshman in college, and have been thinking about becoming a travel agent. I basically have no idea how to get my foot in the door, though. I know a college degree isn't required, but how helpful is it? And if so, are any particular majors more preferred over others? I'm just not finding a lot of good info about the career on the web, so any info would be very helpful. |

Why not just work for yourself??? You could try going to the OSSN info on Home Based Agents also, look on the internet for Travel Trade Shows coming to your area they are a wealth of info. I got started on my own but I have family in the Travel Business for many years.
dont give up! |

I would personally rather start off working in an agency. Maybe work for myself later on, but definitely start off in an agency. Thanks for your help though. It's appreciated. |

Poor Kody, sorry these people are trying to recruit you. You are probably fed up with all the selling going on. Just go to a travel agency and set up an appointment with the owner or manager and express INTEREST in potentially becoming an agent. DONT ASK FOR A JOB!!! Find out what it takes, express your dedication, and tell that person that you would like their permission to ask them more questions in the future. They will most likely be so excited to have a pupil for them to mold in the industry (people like to teach others), and most likely offer you a part time position. If that dosnt work at the first agency, go to others with the same intentions. Dont fall for these jokers with "STAY AT HOME" opportunities. I hope this helps. |

Cliff, I will have to check you on your comment. Home based businesses have afforded many people opportunities they would never ever get working for someone else. You might want to do a lil research yourself before you put your foot in your mouth. I suggest you research the average person who has built an empire simply working from home. Bridgette |
|
Cliff in Joplin, Missouri 15 months ago |
Last time I checked the initial question wasn't about starting a home travel business. If you have been successful with a home business, thats great, but that wasn't his question. No doubt a home travel business could be successful. And i tried to find a legit person who has built their own empire and NOT to my surprise I couldn't find anyone who could PROVE it. Thanks for your comment. |

Hey, Google "Tim Miller"
they all have had huge success with home based travel businesses Take care,

Sure thing NP, Call me around 2pm EST 267-760-1140 and I will connect you with Tim. As for Donald and Irvin go onto their travel website you should be able to pull their numbers Cliff, what do you do for income? Are you thinking of entering the home based travel business or any other type of home based business? Take Care Bridg |
|
Cliff in Joplin, Missouri 15 months ago |
Sorry, should have specified Sarcasm, I thought you meant that these people became rich and famous because of their online travel business. Silly me. You said I should talk to the "average person" who built an empire as a home travel agent. Are you seriously asking me if I want a home travel biz? I have no interest in being sold anything, thank you. Im just trying to answer Kody's question because no one else is. Thanks Bridg. |
|
Bridgette Harris in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 15 months ago |
maybe u should start your own business as a comedian, at least then you dont have to worry about someone actually taking you or the comments you make seriously. The only reason I inquired about your interest is I know some really cool informative websites that could provide you with loads on information on several types of home based businesses. As for Kody, his request was info on becoming a travel agent. There is more than enough response given to Kody for him to make an educated decision without your curt comments. Take Care, Good luck with your endeavors Bridg |

One thing I like about YTB is that we have more different ways to earn money. Excluding recruiting. But the basic thing is You have an opportunity to sell travel and fully focus on that and that does cost you some money. The second opportunity is that you can become Marketing Rep and that does not cost anything and as a rep you sell travel websites. When people purchase website you earn commissions from that that also. The best way to find out about the company is to go Red Capet Day, where average people get recognized and receive bonuses for their hard work, also chance to meet with the founders of the company and possibly ask questions that you have. If you are interested in just selling travel, than it is the best to go with Regular Agency sitting and waiting for that phone call. If you decide that it is boring, than I would like to welcome you in to a family of Referring Travel Agents where you find your customers, and you dictate your future. Also Please check out Leisure Group Travel Organizing. If you have any questions please write to me at: vlad_ua1@yahoo.com. Blessings, Vlad |

Mary in Long Beach, California said: TraVerus Travel Mary All the blogs you see about YTB are posted by Traditional Agents or people from Traversus. The reason why YTB is attacked so much is that they are the only direct sales company was able to reach such magnitude in Travel Industry. A lot of companies tried before but failed. Travel Industry is very vicious place, you have Regular Travel Agent, Home Based Agents, RTA's. Then there are Tour Operators, Airlines, Hotels Cruise Companies. And all the agents are trying to take their piece of pie. If Traversus ever reached such magnitude as YTB, they would also have so much negatives stuff against them. That is just competition, also. YTB has great training for RTA's, we regular training calls, training provided by Cruise Companies, And Some of the best and largest tour operators. YTB Does not have many problems, Bloggers just want you to think they do.

Tons of former YTB reps have joined our Traverus family. We have welcomed them, we love them and they love us. Stop hating and learn to cope with the competition. |

Hey Bridgette, All this talk about various host agencies is fine but most of them do not give leads and most of them are focused on making their money from their marketing they charge you for webinars and many other tools and you still end up on your own without any leads.

Hi Guys you are all right to a certain extent but the current economic climate means you work very long hours to buld a business that is not necessarily all that profitable. The only market to be in at present is the uber luxury high end bracket. you can always come down a notch to suit your clients budget requirments based on economic status but if you start in the lower escalante it is harder to gain a foot hold in the higer end.
