Mark in Chicago, Illinois said: I sure feel better reading over others experiences. For a second there I felt like the only one having trouble finding a job. Im a very hard worker, nice guy have had employers say things like "MarK if I had a hundred guys Like you thered be no stoping us" and had a $20.00+ p/h job. Then one day I got a raise and decided to go out to dinner with my wife and have a few drinks since ill id do was work all the time and hardly took her out, Thought it was well deserved. one block from my house i was pulled over and charged with dui because I refused to blow. Lost my job, license and had to deal with feeling like a total failure for losing everything i had worked so hard for. A year has passed and have since received my CDL but no one will hire me after running my MVR (DUI was dropped and I was charged with reckless driving instead). I sincerally wish and pray for each one of you because I know first hand what being a good person but having bad paper feels like when you are refused/turned down. I think the best things are forums like these where we can help each other out. I live in illinois near chicago, if anyone knows where I might be able just to get my foot in the door please let me know. If i get hired Ill make sure to let you all know thanks guys for taking time to read my 2cents. I dont know if this will help any of you but at least it lets you know of companies in your area that are hiring, here is the addy it may link you to the site if you click on it, if not just copy paste or write it into your browser, www.etrucker.com/default.asp?magid=12

I spent like $1200 for trucking school and can't find a job. I do not want to go OTR. I want a local job but everyone seems to be on their high horse or something. My record is clean and i'm a good driver. Just can't get my foot in the door and these OTR companys want me to be out to long. Does anyone know of a company were i could be over maybe 1 or 2 nights tops? |

Every place I look all I read about is how hard it is to get a driving job with a felony record. I have yet to come across someone in the same situation who has actually found a company that hires felons. Has noone out there with no OTR expeience and a felony record found a trucking company that will hire! Having gone to school, a clean MVR, and a HAZMAT has not helped me. |

The problem is is the experiance. I looked for Local jobs and I have a friend who is a driver in his own truck he gave me all the numbers. None of them would call me back. I even told them I would take a pay cut. I would work free three days a week. and nothing then one day my friend needed a driver. did he call me. NO he called some one with experiance. Most local company's there insurance company wont let them Hire New drivers. But they fail to tell you all this at the driving school. I reported the school I went to to ripoff.com |

New drivers; let me give you some advice that you can pass on to your friends that may be thinking of getting their CDL. Always, always call around to trucking companies and ask about anything in your background that may keep you from passing a background check. Most of the big OTR companies will not hire those applicants with felonies. This is due to companies that go over the border into Canada and now Mexico not wanting their freight held up at the borders which is what happens when the driver of the load is discovered to have a felony (and some misdemeanors). Make sure that before they sign on with these truck driving academies that all questions like that are answered. |

Deric in San Mateo, California said: Yea I don,t have the Money to buy my own truck. I cant even afford gas in my car. I put in a application at Mavrick but they don't hire out of California, maybe you could try there. I also put in one with big dawg if you have experiance he can help. next week I will be looking for a ma and Pa company. take it easy. Rick Have you tried watkins and shepard in missoula, montana. They hire new drivers.I know you would probably prefer to stay in California but you could just work for them for one year to get experience and then head back to California apply to companies then that wanted the experience. I read your comment and thought you were living my life, Am new to driving and just found out that I have a reckless driving on some report called USIS Commercial Services is this what they call the DAC report.??? It happen 4 1/2 years ago when I was hit by someone, I went down to DMV and pulled my MVR and the only thing it says is that it was dismissed by the DA because the police officer made a error and the other driver was written up for it. Besides that my MVR is clean (25 Years). So I am now in the process of getting the whole thing expungement but that takes 4 to 6 months. Am semi retried and was looking forward to driving but can't find a compamy to pick me up. Have you had any luck since your post or can someone esle telling me of a good company that runs the eastcoast that might give me chance.?? All I went is to work and not get taken for ever cent I have. thx's

What's your opinion? I have been a driver for almost 20 years. An owner operator most of the years. No violations and a high safety rating. The problem is I am not qualified to drive now because I had a seizure (at home) and I am on seizure medication. My doctors say I am now safe to drive. All tests say I am normal. I have not had any more seizures on the medication. I got a new health card from a different doctor that doesn't know about the meds. If I tell them I can't drive dew to the law that states no seizure medication. I have what is called an "aoura" it is a warning before a seizure. So if I were to get one I could pull over. My seizures are just goose bumps that run down one side of my body then my speech was sometimes slurred. The pills stop that and make sure I don't have a seizure were I pass out. I still have the truck payment to make so I need to drive. What would you do? |
|
deric in San Mateo, California 12 months ago |
Are you talking to me.? I don't have a problem, but I wouldn't let you drive for me. better sale that truck. find a better job. like basket weaving. and stop telling people all your business. |

one company to avoid for sure is PRIORITY TRANSPORTATION farmington n.y./chesterton in. they will keep you out for weeks(otr)and rip you off on paid miles. another is MD FARMS&TRUCKING,rockton il. this company owner will lie to you and expect you to run illeagal when prompted he also "internet bids" on his loads for those who hate carriers that cut the freight rates. |

After reading all the other comments, I realize that I'm not the only person having trouble. I currently have my CDL Class A permit. Upon applying for jobs and training, I am finding it extremely difficult to find a job. I currently have 3 points on my license but my abstract still shows other offenses that will be coming off this January. I don't have any DUI charges. However I do have a criminal record from 10 years ago. I feel as though, I deserve a second chance at making a better life for myself and my family. People often make mistakes while growing up and don't realize the end result at the time. But as first hand experience, I am feeling my mistakes more now then ever. I am a very hard and dedicated worker and I know I can be an asset to any company. |

Deric in San Mateo, Sorry I wouldn't hire you and put you in one of my six trucks. Give an ex felon the keys to a 2005 Pete and 200k in goods, not a smart business choice. Sorry, the driving schools make it sound like you get your CDL and all the carriers want you. You are too high of a risk with the record and no experience to boot.

HA HA HA, I don't care if you would hire me or not. I wouldn't want to work for a jerk any way. and its to bad that the schools are the way they are, But in case you did not read all my reply's I got a job. and it's not some driver job driving around getting hemroids in me butt if you get my drift. the fact is is this you don't know me. you know nothing except I went to jail. thats all you know. don't judge a book by its cover. oh but wait you must be like the rest of the truck owners out there. redneck, perverted, mindless, and pregadist. |
|
Deric in San Mateo, California 12 months ago |
Dear flatbed, I don't care what you think. I gave up on the whole trucker thing long ago. I see some of you cant even back up worth a poop. if you see my DAC report you would disciminate against me just like every one else. I am cool with it. I don't care it is not where God wants me to be. and it is all about where the good lord wants me. I excepted that I couldn't get a job driving because of something I did 16 years ago. and I wouldn't want to work for you any how. you don't know me. and I was just kidding about the basket weaving. but I wouldn't hire some one who has seizures. and since your so into trying to boost your self up by making others feel bad then you hire the guy. you probable don't even own any trucks your probable just a dishwasher at Denny's. |

I am cool. thanks though for the heads up. some times I let the jerk rednecks get under my skin. I have a better job then truck driving now, I wanted to drive long haul to get away from life and isolate but I realized I wanted it for the wrong reason. I am glad no one hired me, I don't think I could be away from my wife and kids for as long as some people talk about. maybe when I was in my 20's it would have been cool but I am in my 40's now. I have friends that drive and if you can back up good and have been driving 2 or 3 years, try Roadshow. I know that so many people who had a felony before me ruined it for me, but I am long over it. it is sad though that people in life never see the good you do, only the bad. if a man with 10 years driving wrecks, its ok. if a felon wrecks its a big deal. oh well thats life. the times have changed. |

I have a felony from 8 years ago checks and credit card abuse. I am working pulling tanker for 35 cents a mile. I get about 2500 miles a week and I am home every weekend. I even got my hazmat. it aint that hard to find a half decent job if u have a felony. I also have about 20 MISTIMEANERs also. so my rap sheet is a mile long. I have aslo been offered many OTR jobs making 40 or better per mile. just keep your driving record clean and time helps alot with criminal backgrounds. If they see you are good for 7 or more years they feel bettr about hireing you. |

Sorry Deric, I'm not bashing you. It does sound like you are still sore and jealous at the industry. You are right, I don't know you. If you presented yourself at an interview the same way you are here It only confirms it. The fact is the past still has an impact. The debt to society may have been paid, but it shows the types of decisions that the individual made. Sorry, I would not hire JJ or lease him on either the risk is just to high on both of you. If I did not know of the false medical card I probably would hire him dew to the fact he sounded safe. I know of the current law and it is unfair to drivers with controlled seizures. A small number of states grant intrastate waivers for JJ's condition. Have you checked to see if you live in one of those states JJ? The Medical Review B. changed the law for diabetic drivers and it appears they will do the same for seizure and sleep disorders. These drivers have been forced to do exactly what JJ has done. I do have a driver that is an insulin controlled diabetic. He is one of my best drivers. He lost his CDL and truck when it was found out he was hiding the same as JJ. I have a friend that has three trucks. He has hired, well, what others and I find too high of a risk. I personal have got on a plane and hired a taxi to ride around a truck stop to look for one of his trucks. It is amazing what the thug driver did to the truck. Once I had to buy a seat and mattress just to get it back home. |
|
JJ 12 months ago |
Flatbed, thank you for the info. No my state does no grant waivers. Deric, did not get me down. He just put his foot in his own mouth. "You don't know me" well he doesn't no me. I guess basket weaving or washing dishes is insulting. I don't look down on what people do, as long as they are doing it. It appears we have sort of the same problem. The DOT is looking at my past, not the now. I don't have seizures. I had a seizure. It is sad that people look at the past and not the present. Deric may not be committing a felony right now but he did. So they think the chances are higher he will do it again. Just like having a seizure. So I guess Deric can teach me how to weave. Sorry I told you my problems, I guess you are the only one who is aloud to post your problem and ask for help. You wanted me to sell my truck. You want to buy it? Remember, no one will let you lease on to them dew to the record. You will have a problem getting your own authority and getting cargo insurance because they do ask that question. I am not trying to put Deric down. He just ripped into me for having a problem. Sorry Deric, my insurance co. would not let me hire you to drive my truck. If you bought it I would not be allowed to drive for you. Oh yea, "you would not hire me". |
|
Deric in San Mateo, California 12 months ago |
Sorry man.Every one has problems. I was not trying to be cruel. I have done my research into the trucking industry. I have about 8 friends who all drive there own trucks. and flat bed was right. no experiance and a felon. to much of a risk. I have talked to insurance company and since I am a new driver insurance would be to high. so sorry I don't want to buy your truck. in fact I don't even want to drive any more. I have a Class A with a tanker and a double tripple. if I ever use cool. if not cool to. see I got a job making more then a trucker so I don't care. and I used to have grand mall seizers myself. I am sure God will bless you with something. maybe God don't want you to be a trucker any more. peace and give your life to Jesus and all kinds of cool things will happen. and remember Christians are not perfect, only forgiven by a God who is. |

Deric in San Mateo, California 12 months ago |
It is cool flatbed yea It bothers me that I paid close to 3000.00 for a Class A my drive instructor was a lier and so was the School I went to. Then to have to deal with all the rejections from so many company's and some people where just flat out rude. Big Dawg said he could help then told me to wait 10 more years. Arrow said you got the job. then told me call us when you get experiance. I spoke to brokers friends who drive. and they all said the same thing. high risk. new with a few to many felony's. it is ok it is not what God wants me to do. it just bothers me that I have changed my life, I don't drink or do drugs any more, I go to church on Sundays and study the bible. I go to AA. I feed the poor when I can. and I try to be a humble man, and when some one does not even take the time to meet me, they just look at a piece of paper that says this or that, and I feel what discrimination feels like, then yea I get a bit sore. times are changing. I finally got a job though so there are people who give chances. I am just not the sterio typ of felon. its in the past. |
