I agree with you and all the joining forces.Something has got to be done and either bush does something now or he will have a bigger problem on his hands trying to fuigure out how he is going to get all those products distrubutted to the store across america and the fueling industries will to. I'm sure they won't like it one bit that their profit for the day and so on has reduced. and hopeful this will send a message to them that they better change or the consequences ahead will be dire. My wife and I would like to stay being informed on the situiation.Thankyou and I will be supporting and take a stand for this.

I hope that this matter can be handled in a timely fashion. However, I am afraid that the transpot industry will have to shut down to prove its point.

I have been having difficulty finding a job in my own field, and there was a period where I actually thought about becoming a truck driver. I contacted a number of companies and went to a truck stop and talked to a number of tractor trailer drivers. However, after researching this industry I realized that the pay stinks and the benefits aren't much to brag about. I met some of the nicest truckers when I went to this Pilot Truck stop. It's really a shame the pay is substandard. They say that there is a real shortage of drivers. If only they would raise the pay, I believe that they would then get alot of applicants. Most people are tired of working the white collar office type of job and would love to see the country. Just raise the pay alittle. ALITTLE!

The average truck gets 5 miles to the gallon. If a gallon of diesel is $4.00, it cost eighty cents to drive one mile.
Insurance for one truck at $800 a month. IRP for that one truck at $1400.00. Ky. registration for one truck one trailer $61.00. IRS-1099 for one truck $550.00. UCR for one truck $39.00. Equals $31.92 a day for a 365 day year.
Road taxes are from 13 to 41 cents a gallon added to the $4.00 a gallon you pay at the pump, depending on the state you go through.
You pay property taxes in AR., KS. and KY if you enter those states.
Enter a toll road you add the Road Tax for that state.
Oil change at $250.00. A tire at $400.00. Truck shop labor at $100 an hour.
Did I leave anything out? Lumpers! You have to pay the Receiver to take the freight out of your trailer!
I have no driver and the equipment is paid for so I have a little change in my pocket.
It's the brokers that have killed this industry. They keep cutting each others rates to get the contract. President Reagan did us a disservice when he deregulated.

I drove a truck for 35 years and quit due to health. But if theres going to be just a parcel, forget it, it dont work. Shut them down for a week. Anyone found truckin, shut em down by force if necessary. Let them dam Arabs eat thir oil. Phil

reagan didnt deregulate reucking get your facts straight it was jimmy carter reagan just happened to be the one in office when it went into effect check it out

the only way to do this is to shut them down for a week the first time, and two weeks the next, And shoot scabbers. Been thrun this a hundred times. You can do it but it will take sacrifice. I remember when they use to give deisel out to put on dirt roads to keep the dust down, wow, why pay for it now, because the goverement gets revenue off the tax, and the state, then the middle man, the trucker gets it up the kazoo. Does anybody know the exact date of a shut down, or is this really a April fools joke, seems like there would be a little more serious planning, and not on the biggest joke day of the year. I have seen and heard several dates, if this is real; people need to get real! This is our lives, our Families and country. United We Stand!

im a broker in the trucking industry and i am also married to a driver. i have tried repeatedly to get my shipper to come up on rates and have lost some customers due to them not coming up on rates.they wanna give the drivers more fuel money but lower the line haul rates..my argument..6 is one half dozen of the other..i hope that if the strike does happen that it will accomplished something. cuz without the american tucker the us will crumble..IF U GOT IT A TRUCK BROUGHT IT!!! drivers are the backbone of the nation and its about time someone took a stand. im just one voice but next to the american solider...my hat goes off to men and women pushing the limit to get it there...you guys make a difference whether or not the goverment wants to acknowlede it..they need a kik in the ass!!!

i think that everyone should shut down there is know reason for the freight rates to be messed up like they are how come i can get 2 a mile or more but they want me to come back off the east coast for .80 no reason for it i am a independent owner opp and all the food and clothes and everything else went up but are rates are the same yah fuel is expensive , rates are cheap brokers stealing fuel surcharges i would like to see this country shut down for a week or more and see how hostile the people of america get when there is nothing to eat think about are future if there is anyone any more when it comes right down to it the united states doesnt even seem like it the way this country is run im shutn down and hope everyone does also

Is any of the major trucking companys talking about a strike?If everybody in the United States wouldn't purchase a gal.of gas or diesel in couple of days then the profits to Exxon wouldn't be in the billions this quarter and maybe this would start squezzin on somebodys nuts until something is done!This price GOUGING is affecting everybody in this country from the truckers,farmers and the average working people trying to get to there jobs everyday.Since diesel fuel is a bi product and not refined then the production cost should be less than gas,so why are we pay .80 cent a gal. more than unleaded then?Diesel use to be 50 cent a gal. less a gasoline about 4-5 years ago.This is something I would like to get an answer on.

i agree it allready time for strike . I own a truck after all expenses and fuel i make less than 4 years ago as a company driver , and rates today are the same as it was 4 years ago than diesel cost 1.60 per gallon. By uniting together we can change that!!!!!

The word is not getting out to the drivers. My shippers are worried, they have called us 3 times this week to see if we are running. This needs to be better organized. Banners, national coverage, whatever it takes. It worked in Italy, it can work here.

I am a truckers wife and yes we are struggling. I live in delaware ohio and we have heard about a truckers strike that is going to happen on April 1st 2008. I am supporting this strike and I have it written on my car windows so in hopes that other Truckers see it and will "unite for the truckers strike" My husband get real involed when he beleives in something. He wants to block one of the fuel bays here in town to get really into the strike. I know this is short notice to all. But when do we take a stand? We need more pay! He works long hours and Is away from his family and for what? To come home with no power or no food in the fridge or no heat! That is more stress that we can not afford anymore. I am all for this and I think it is about time for all the Truckers in the USA take a stand and do something about it. If all trucks shut down then the stores will loose product in three days and the bargains begin......STRIKE STRIKE STRIKE LETS DO IT!!

Ok Id like to say that Im not a trucker. I do have a cdl but drive stuff for the state so the diesel prices dont really affect me. I do come from a family that has been in the trucking business since the 40's. Ok anyway I totally support this strike and hope you all stick together and make a difference. Its not just your diesel fuel its regular gasoline too. You guys can help everyone out. They just keep raising and raising and raising these oil prices because there's nothing we can do and we will continue to pay em because we're so dependent on it. Ive said at some point we need to stick together and show the government we do have some power and can shut this country down!! I work at a large industrial plant here in fargo. just a one day shutdown by the truckers will shut us down for at least a day maybe more. our owners will lose about 10 million a day. they are scared and contacting the white house. go truckers. we all as blue collar workers are getting raped by big business and the government. here is a union worker supporting your shutdown.

four major trucking companys said they area shutting down. i can't remember all 4 but two are jb hunt and weirner. the iww union is shutting down 16,000 trucks. the cattle haulers union is already shut down.

My best friend and my ex husband are both truckers. I agree with this stike completly. Nurses and doctors work long hard hours and get paid. Truckers work long hard hours, get next to nothing in pay and get rewarded by being away from family for hours and days on end!!! How is this fair??? STRIKE STRIKE!!! People will get the hind when nothing get delivered and then maybe understand the saying if you got it a trucker brought it!! Brenda C

My Dad was a Teamster and I truly respect the trucking industry. It isn't fair what is being done to our society as a whole, when the wealthy oil barrens control everthing. So I say shut 'er down. for starters, American oil companies have jacked the prices, not the Arabs. A truck strike will not work, didn't in the 70's, won't now
If you want more money, STOP TAKING CHEAP FREIGHT!! When a company has to choose between paying one dollar to five, they will pay one. If we UNITE to say NO to take cheap freight, the rates will increase. If we are going to unite, how about lets unite to make money, not to piss it away.

I work for Brisk Transportation in Delaware Ohio they are currently leased to Kroger Food Company. How many drivers across the United States Have served, fought lived in and or injured for the rights of our country. I know that alot of drivers have been or are in the miltary. We are one of the largest employment groups that move America on the ground. We have stood against many enemies and we have made a difference, and or won the fight, so why in the hell are we standing by. I'm not crazy I just care about our country. All of my Owner Op friends and myself have had enough. We miss a payment our truck is repossesed from the greedy self interested finance company and then sells the truck again. We are killing ourselves to haul the goods and NO ONE CARES, not even the trash selling the tractors. ENOUGH is ENOUGH At the end of the day we are left with nothing.

My RIG is home on April 1st. What choice is there.

I work at the TA in boise ID as a mechanic this strike will affect me hard seeing how I work on commision. But I support this 100% and will be handing out flyiers to every driver that comes into our shop. No company eat's cost they pass it on to the costomer, as should truckers with fuel. the problem is that this is also how the ecnomy works good money everyone rushes to that field of work. The more people in that field the less pay. Once the pay is low people leave that field of work. Pay goes up. Unfortunitly right now lots of truck drivers + plus ungodly prices at the pump not a good combo. Park the trucks April 1 08.

I know fuel prices are beyond high. That is not going to change unless they are going up. This is a national problem, not just trucking problem. I am not sure if stricking is the solution. At least it is a start to get the trucks to work together on this. Some of us small companys cannot afford to do this. If we do not haul CHEAP frieght. Then they will have to raise the pay for these loads or thses CHEAP loads can sit. If they will not come up on the pay I have nothing else to say to them and they are waisting my time. The truck that will take this freght can run into the ground for all I care and will not be in business for long, hopefully. As a consumer everything else has gone up in cost, but not the rate of pay of loads. There will be nothing to consume if it will not be delivered. What I am saying is fuel prices are going to rise. So our loads need to pay up or not get picked up.

I'm an energy analyst in Houston. The impact that trucker strike would have would truly send a message to the public and our country's leadership. The thing that most people (and truckers) don't understand is that the high fuel prices you're paying for diesel fuel has very little to do with real supply-demand fundamentals, but is strictly based on OVER SPECULATION of the energy futures markets. In other words, a few deep-pocketed hedge funds are chasing a handful of energy commodities with BILLIONS OF SPECULATIVE DOLLARS and sending them through the roof! You guys are paying for it! This is going to put our economy in the toilet. A trucker strike will definitely send a message!

Whatever it takes to get prices at the pump...I'm for it.

You all need to do like the French truckers do. They park their rigs in the middle of the road. They take the tickets and the jail time when they refuse to move their rigs. They snarl traffic for days and when the shelves empty out at the market they get what they want.

Actually, I've been hearing that some truckers are thinking about doing that exact thing...

Lining up side-by-side on Freeways in major cities across America, shutting the trucks off, parking them on the Freeway... and walking away.

Essentially, causing gridlock and shutting down roadways across the country. Yikes!
