MT Thanks for the response. I will check out their website and company. Hopefully, I will be done with SPI and at least two ARDMS subject/cert examinations (Gen and OB/GYN) by the time I finish my internships in October 2010 -- passing all examinations. This will surely make me an eligible candidate for placement overseas. Thanks, again, for responding. |

I Attended PCI College in Cerritos and I had a great exprience, I am now working in this field and have passed the ARDMS exams. It really doesn't make a difference if you attend a 4yr program or a 2yr. As long as your knowledgeble & confident upon completion of the course you should be sucessful at getting employed in this field right away. I am currently making $35.00/Hr and I would recommend anyone to check out my school. |

But it's a moot point if my friend doesn't contact me and return it to me. I am still waiting for her to respond. |

ISPaccara in Bronx, New York said: I attend Sanford Brown Institute in Manhattan, and have found the program quite easy, though intense, as it is a lot of information and clinical techniques to grasp within a 12-month didactic period prior to a 6-month (1000 hours) internship. There are excellent clinical instructors (e.g., Dr. Malana) and excellent ultrasound laboratory instructors (e.g. Dr. Bella) who insure that you grasp the anatomy, physiology, technique, etc. Though there are several Sanford Brown campuses that are accredited, the Manhattan campus is not; however, CAAHEP is reviewing the school currently. By all indications, the school should receive its accreditation by January 2010. If you have a Bachelor's degree prior to attending Sanford Brown, it will automatically allow you to sit for the ARDMS under Prerequisite 3A, as long as the ultrasound program is at least 12 months in length and the clinical (internship) is at least 1000 hours. If you do not have a Bachelor's degree (granted from any major) AND the clinical or internship (as ref'd previously), then you can not take the SPI (or any other specialty exam) unless you do so AFTER one year's paid experience (difficult to obtain). There are a few students in my class who are lacking the Prerequisite 3A educational requirement (Bachelor's degree), and they are fearful of not being able to find jobs in order to qualify for the ARDMS exams. Try doing research between CAAHEP, ARDMS, and area schools in NY before making your decision. If you have a Bachelor's degree, however, you are in a good position for ARDMS. Good luck and God bless!!! How much is Sanford Brown in Manhattan? |

I graduated from an accredited ultrasound school (southern california) in 2007, and am ARDMS certified in Abdomen and OB/Gyn. Unfortunately I was unable to secure a job upon graduation, and my scanning skills have become sub-standard. I tried contacting my school but was unsuccessful in getting help. Does anyone know of a facility that might be willing to let me bring my scanning skills up to par? |

Hi Gina, have you heard anything about PCI college yet? I just found out that they have a satellite campus in my area in Gardena and I am very interested in checking out this school! I have searched everywhere, even drove as far as Santa Ana, Fountain Valley, LB and did not even look closer to me as I have never heard of this school before. I saw the ad at my local Pennysaver and called them. I am scheduled to see a rep tomorrow. Let me know what happened to your quest. I think this program is not accredited but I have my BS and I can sit for registry. |

Thank you so much for posting this! So useful....I read through so much postings trying to find one of somebody who ACTUALLY has a bachelors, went to an unaccredited school, and took and passed the ARDMS. I feel so relieved despite reading all these negative postings; I will attend Ultrasound tech school (unaccredited) with much more confidence. |

It's an older RVT study guide (2009) and there were things on the RVT exam that weren't even covered. I only have a xeroxed copy myself. But I do have a Davies RVT study guide and the mock exam software that I would be willing to sell. |

Well, I have the Davies study guide and exam software but Ive heard a couple of different people mention they used the Edlemans study guide to pass. If you dont recommend it I wont use it. This will be my second attempt at the test so I just need to be as thorough as possible this time. Thanks and feel free to give me any advise on passing you can think of. |

I went to an unaccredited school for vascular sonography. I am taking the ARDMS SPI on the 19th of April. I am taking the CCI RVS withthin the next two months. Once I pass that, I can sit for the RVT through ARDMS. It's possible, and definetly do-able! |

I am happy and confident that I chose to go with this DMS program (accredited or not). Good luck with your exam!! |

The job market wants you to have your RDMS credentials and work experience more than an accredited school. I have never seen a job listing that said only graduates from an accredited program would be considered.

Heather in Louisville, Kentucky said: Hi, did you ever find out any information? I am moving to Italy at the end of the year and want to know how to go about finding an ultrasound position there? Thanks I am from new zealand but practicing in the UK in ultrasound. Did you get a job in Italy? For the UK you generally need a radiography qualification as well as ultrasound experience to get the HPC but Americans certainly can work there. My Sister was recently working here in the UK with an American trained sonographer. It would depend on whether they would consider your qualification and experience suitable etc and then they would have to be prepared to take you on. Private facilities don't always require HPC. In NZ, your qualification would need to be assessed locally ( by the MRTB) to see if it is equivalent to the NZ standards ( which are high, incidentally as are Australia's) then you would be granted local registration. You would also need a work permit or a working holiday visa. There are plenty of agencies but they would want local registration first. Same deal for Australia I think. I have certainly worked with canadian sonographers in NZ and they scan to a similar standard as us. I have never worked with anyone from the US so can't comment. There is no simple reciprocal agreement between the US and Europe as I am finding, trying to get myself registered in the US! Most of Europe is too difficult to work in unless you speak the local language. Most scanning is undertaken by Doctors with the exception for some obstetrics. I would be interested to hear of ways of getting work on the European continent. |
