I am a registered nurse. I worked for an ob/gyn clinic many years before becoming a nurse and have since come back to do ultrasounds for them part time. The physicians have trained me on the job and sent me to a week long seminar at Wake Forest. I qualify to sit for the SPI exam under option #1 but obviously need some "book" training. Is there anyone out there similar to my situation, does anyone think I can study the recommended texts on my own to prepare, or am I going to have to back track and take the college program before sitting for the test? Any suggestions are welcomed!

I would definitely suggest you invest in a textbook or a Registry review book before taking the exam! Depending on your willingness to spend money, one that I would suggest is the Edelman Physics textbook. We used it in my Ultrasound program and it was great! It's very broken down and very easy to understand with lots of review questions throughout. Also, if you have the time and money, attending a seminar is a really good idea! I attended one before taking my Abdomen registry and that is the only reason I passed. Definitely don't go in without fully preparing... they are far from easy and they are very expensive to have to keep retaking! Hope this helps!
