I am developing online ultrasound course(s) for two colleges in Michigan. One accredited, one not. |

Msu is a scam! |

DMS in Monroe, Georgia 5 months ago |
MSU is not a scam!?!? They are accredited by Caahep and offer a great education. I am a graduate from that school and passed my registry exams without any problems. Some people go to MSU thinking its going to be easy and everything will just be handed to them and that's usually the ones that are complaining. I use to see people mad at the instructor because a test had to be taken over the weekend and the student had to work. The student posted how how awful the online courses were and how she would only do traditional classes from now on. The student couldn't even think far enough ahead to realize that traditional students have only one day to take a test while the online students could choose from three days to take the test, but she felt like they weren't doing enough to accommodate her. What a joke! Then there are people who dont want to go anywhere to finish cliniclas and then complain. They inform you of this before you sign-up and anyone who knows anything about the medical field knows that this sometimes you have to travel to get clinical hours. If you can't commit to the program don't start it then blame the instructors. Just find a school that fits you the best. For me online was the best because I was able to stay home while taking the majority of my classes then I did have to relocate while I finished clinicals. I knew this might happen when I started and I finished when I was suppose to. It was only for a short period and was completely worth it! |

mandy in Bothell, Washington said: Good luck finding a job-onlain professional :). Make sure dont tell you patients about your onlain experience as they may run away. I need a little clarification Mandy. Are you being sarcastic in saying "good luck in finding a job online professional". If you are then WOW you need to be educated on online education. If you knew then you would not even question whether or not patients would care. I'm in the program & stand by it. Just like with any forms of communication, you cant believe ALL that you read on here. There are many factors why certain people feel a certain way. As far as your comment about being an online professional, making an underlying reference that 'online' students are of a lower standard, please be knowledgeable before making comments like that. (If I am wrong about what you meant then please do forgive me) Have you ever been a part of MSU program? Well the work may be ONLINE but does not mean that it is easy by any means. We have to learn just like the next person & JUST LIKE IN-SEAT STUDENTS we get our hands-on experience at a clinical site just like any other professional in the medical field. No difference! We ALSO have to take those same exams from the HEAD outside source to get our professional licenses JUST LIKE ANYONE ELSE IN THE MEDICAL FIELD. So there is no difference dear. I have a lot of friends and associates who have graduated from the MSU Online DMS Program who are now in jobs that they love from the education they received from mountain state university. I dont like to get in the midst of others conversations but when there is un warrented and uninformed remark made like yours, it leaves way for a much needed response. If you need further clarification I dont mind speaking with you at all but more importantly the educators at MSU are always on-hand to discuss and education on the matter. |

What makes you think I had a hard time finding a job? I was offered a job before my clinical rotations were even finished. The girl who did her rotation before me where i was placed (from MSU also) they tried to get her to stay there also because they said she was so good. The students dont learn to scan online. Students from MSU have the same amount of clinical experience as anyone taking traditional classes so what you said doesn't make any sense. |

No way msu students get the same experience as at any respectable school. You "study" onlain while others get real scanning experience in a lab for a year even before starting clinicals. Also msu accreditation is pending for many medical programs FYI. Lol in Roswell, Georgia said: What makes you think I had a hard time finding a job? Has anyone personally attended IMU in Atlanta? I understand that they are not accredited by the CAAHEP, but how THOROUGH is the program/education? I want to attend a program that will teach me everything (or as close as I can get to it). A representative from IMU did tell me that if I was trying to go into OB/GYN sonography, that they DO NOT teach transvaginal sonography (using the doppler) AT ALL. so I just wanted to know would I be qualified to do my job after graduating from this program??? PLEASE HELP!!!!!! |

There are other CAAHEP schools that you can go to in Atlanta and if you are looking for one that is specific to online there is a school in Spanish Fort AL that has a distance program. I know that they have had student in the Atlanta area the they still require you to go to clinicals everyday but you can do you course work online. The website in www.iudmed.com It is worth looking into Plus it is only a 1 year program. Hope this helps |

for some reason it wont let me type a long messege on here so sorry for making this short, they accept about 24 students a year, they have a scale that they grade the students on to see who the top students are, the scale is based on grades, if you ahve job shadowed before or worked in the area. if you find you own clinical site then you dont have to compete if you have any more questions feel free to ask :) |
|
Nikki10 in Canton, Michigan 3 months ago |
I know they have rotating admissions, so if you don't make it then you have to keep reapplying. So I'm just wondering for a person who gets average grades but meets the requirements, will they even have a chance to get in? I have job shadowed before and have only a few classes to take for pre-req's in order to apply. |

Nikki- I'm sorry I am not really sure what your chances would be :( I had to find my own clinical site so I got in right away... I know they did tell me that a lot of students apply I found this on the website-They base it on this •High grades, related allied health experience, good interviewing skills, and job shadowing experiences positively influences your chances to secure a spot in the program. To me it was worth it because I really needed to do an online program because we are military. I guess youd have to decide if your willing to chance it, or if you could find a hospital to host you then you would know forsure that you would get accepted. |

Nikki- I didn't get to answer you question on clinicals- This only lets me type a little and wont send half the time. You apply for the program in Jan. Then take an introduction class to get you use to the machine in may, Clinicals start in August and go till the following July. During this time you will go 4 days a week for a least 32 hours a week. You also take 1-2 online classes threw out clinicals. Also the teachers are really helpful if you don't understand something they will actually webchat with you to help you understand. |

Anna in Middle Village, New York said: Hi Wasted Money. I can't speak for down in Georgia, but here in NY, all the jobs that are posted are for 9 - 5 hours. Personally, I would prefer Nurse's hours, three 12 hour shifts a week as opposed to 5 8 hour days. It was one of the reasons why I wanted to get into the medical field. I thought it would give me more time with my family on my days off. Yes, you have to be on-call one day a month but you get paid for "beeper time" and also get paid additionally when you actually get called in. Everyone knows that they will mostly have to be on-call at some point in their career and that 9 - 5 doesn't mean you will get out at 5pm, but rather when the last person is finished being scanned. Are you currently working doing sonography? How do you like it? Did you go to SBI and that's why you are listed as "Wasted Money"? Good luck!! :o) I am not an ultrasound tech but I am a nuclear medicine tech and I have worked with u/s and vascular techs and I can tell you the hrs.

none of you have any idea what it takes to become a sonographer. it's very difficult. there's a lot more to it than looking at fetuses, too. anyone who thinks online schooling for something hands on like this is a good idea is on crack. i work for a school that teaches this and the students scan over 20 hours a WEEK!!!! how do you do that online? would you want your medical professionals learning their crap through the internet? ew. JRCDMS and CAAHEP accreditation are a MUST- especially the JRCDMS. if they dont have that, you cannot work in the field. |
