Here is my advice to anyone who is interested in studying Ultrasound. I've been working in this field for over 20 years. First and foremost, if you do not have a Bachelor's Degree, think twice. Secondly, only the Accredited Schools. You cannot get a job in today's market unless you passed your registry and is a Registered Ultrasonographer, unless you have a friend or a family member who will sign off on one year of experience in the field. Or in the regions where there is a shortage of ultrasonographers.
Check ARDMS website for requirements. If you live in NY, then I would look into Downstate College in Brooklyn. It is a BS Degree Program, highly reputable, will cost you much less then "Mickey Mouse Schools of Ultrasound", since it is a State University, and you will not have any problems of getting employment. NYU is another option, accredited, pre-req is AS degree but very expensive. They are not accepting any students, as I hear, now, but they are in a process of restructuring. So they might reopen with another affiliation. If you are in the other parts of the country, then look into college level programs. Those programs graduate a smaller # of students which end up in better hospitals and private offices with higher end salaries. Otherwise you are at the mercy of Lady Luck. We interview a lot of people, and the criteria is Education-Degree, Registry, which Ultrasound School the candidate attended, # of years of experience and where.
Good luck to you all.

Does it matter much what your BA is in? My school is accredited and I will have a AS. If I don't get in 2012 then I will transfer and start BA but not sure what to get it in. Was planning healthcare management.
