Hi,

Can anyone tell me what kind of science/math skills or knowledge they feel is necessary to be a success in this field? Or do you think as long as you are fairly intelligent you can pick that part up with time and client interaction skills etc are more important?

Thanks

Devon

You can do this as long as you are fairly intelligent. Anything you really need will be taught in class. You just have to be prepared to study and memorize alot of stuff!

So is it just different terms, and anatomy?

It is not an easy profession. it is more than terms and anatomy- it's pathology, embryology, physics, physiology, instrumentation,... i could go on and on. There is a reason as to why the field pays well!

But is it hard to an ape, or someone that is inteligent?

I mean you say there is a reason why the field pays so well, but I have been in finance the last three years and the pay is double at least then what is being paid to a Radiology Tech.

Thats not why I'm looking to get into this field at all, that I can tell you!!

Dear Present or Future Ultrasound Students or Current US Techs:
If you are looking for advanced training in abdominal and peripheral vascular ultrasound, please keep me in mind. I can help you become prepared for the competitive world of ultrasound. The training I offer is directly with patients and can be in groups or in private- you choose what method of learning you'd like. If you have little time, I can give you crash courses in abdomen and peripheral vascular ultrasound. For more details, please reach me at charles.segovia@gmail.com.

There are a great deal of reasons why some people are right for diagnostic imaging and others are not. You have to have the right personality to deal with sick and dying, irritated and hurting people everyday.
If you are looking at being a Rad Tech, that is much easier to "learn the tricks of the trade" than say ultrasound. Ultrasound is more artistic and hands on with patient care and the radiologists rely on sonographer to make thier diagnosis. Unlike radiology, where once the correct image is taken, you are done with the process.
Definately do some shadowing and research before you decide to change professions. You may not be a fit for the medical field.

How about taking a career assessment and finding out if DMS is on the list for potential careers for you. Then you will know right off if you have those skills.

Is ultrasound tech a dying field? Do you think that with medical advances they will phase out techs? Or that the machines will be able to run themselfes?

yeah that will never happen. Ultrasound is a safer alternative to other imaging modalites and the gold standard for certain exams. A machine would never be able to run its self.... The tech does all the work.

Hi! I have about 70 credit hours from an accredited college. Will that help me get my ultrasound certificate or degree. I read that the schooling is about 2 years but I am wondering if it would be less with my transfer credits. Thanks for all replies.

more questions: I also read the job market for this position is predicted to be very good in the coming years. Can anyone validate this statement? I'm not currently working and I really have to think a lot how I'm going to support me since this program's only offered in the day time. I need to have a piece of mind by knowing that I will get a job by the time I finish my 2-year degree. So far, I have no experience in healthcare.

thx again.
