I am a sonographer here in Tulsa and have been for years. I too am concerned about the job market. I wondered if the AIMT lets you know that you might have to move in order to find a position. I love my job, but I get asked all the time if it is a good career move. I am not sure how to answer that question with as many grads. that are coming out. |
|
laura10 in tulsa, Oklahoma 33 months ago |
No they didnt let us know that. They also said they would help us find a job and that wasnt true either. I dont think its a good career move unless you already have a guarenteed job. I wish I had just finished my RN i feel like i wasted two years of school when I could of already gotten my bachelor's degree! |

I was alarmed to view your posting-- and hope to find out more information if possible. I am about to begin the sonography program at AIMT in August and am constantly researching to find any graduates to ask.....There are no jobs in Tulsa or surrounding areas? What was your overall experience with the school and clinicals? Do you really feel it was a complete waste of money and time or do you have valuable skills that you could use...just havent found the right opportunity? I am really getting concerned and really just want to know the experience of other students who have attended AIMT. It is an expensive investment and quite a sacrifice of time and I do not want to realize a negative truth too late. Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. laura10 in tulsa, Oklahoma said: thanks.. i graduated from AIMT in Tulsa.... i should have gone to a four year college. I only found a job prn on the weekend and had to go back to nursing. I thought about AIMT but when i heard you have to work a year before you can even sit for a registry, i was like - uh no. I am about to graduate from the University of Arkansas in Fort Smith, which is about 2 hours from Tulsa, and it is accredited. With this program, you can start taking registries 6 months prior to graduation, so before we graduate in May, all of our registries will be done. I highly recommend it. It is a 2 yr program and you have to have your RT (R) (x-ray registry) to get in. The clinical sites are all in Fort Smith for the most part, although there is an optional one in Tulsa. I believe it is way cheaper than AIMT and you do get a bachelors degree as well. |

I would not recommend AIMT. I graduated from there and they promised you would get a job to my class too. The turn-over rate of the instructors is rediculous. Only about half of our class got a job. Should have went and got a Bachelor's Degree and been done with it. Its hard to get registered after you have worked for a year when you cant get a job without moving out of state, not isn't it. |

I've heard of gratuates suing these schools, for false advertisement, that crank out students without helping them find jobs as promised. Ask a lawyer. I know Kaplan Career Institute is one getting sued. laura10 in tulsa, Oklahoma said: No they didnt let us know that. They also said they would help us find a job and that wasnt true either. AIMT sucks and yes they lied to me saying i would have a job right out of school, well its been 6 months since i graduated and still dont have a job! waste of time and cash! do not recommend it at all to anyone! im sure the school will go under soon anyway! |

The same thing happened to me. Now I have 5 digits in student loans to pay back. They are pumping ultrasound students out everywhere and no one is willing to hire. I'm going to go back to school for nursing once I save a tiny bit of money. I feel like I just wasted 2 years along with all this debt to follow. |

I am not from Illinois, I have no idea why my profile says that. AIMT is the biggest ripoff in Tulsa Oklahoma. They are liars and have no intentions of helping anyone get a job. The only good employee they had passed away and the school admin. is a con artist. He (Manni) told all of my class there was only one slot left and he needed $2500. down to hold our spot. Oh, and how the school helped everyone get a job. LMAO. What about the last 3 classes that can't find a job in the overpopulated field. Give me a break. And how can you work for a year to be able to sit for the regestry when there are no jobs to get. What a waste of $22,000. I will be paying back with interest. I'd like to get my money back. If anyone has an idea how, let me know. |

I just enrolled at AIMT. Tomorrow will be my last day that I can drop for a full refund. They seem very unorganized, like they are "winging it". I really am interested in the program and hope that they are truthful. Just to let everyone know, that Manni is no longer there and he has been replaced with a new person. They said he had to go back to India. I don't know if he left or they fired him. It seems like Gail is trying to get the program up and running for the better. I was surprised when she said she had only been there for 19 months. Any extra info please post! I hope all past students get jobs :) |
|
justdoit 17 months ago |
You better take advantage of the drop while you can and run. When I was there, Manni was training someone to take his place. Everyone had figured out what a scam he was running. You will really wish you had taken this advice if you dont. How would you explain the last four classes full of graduates who cannot find employment. Its your money. |

Thanks for the heads up. The facts are right in front on me, i'm so glad that I ran across this forum while I stil have time. They told us they are in process of getting accredited and would most likley have it done before we graduate so we dont' have to work the full year before we can take our registry. Have you had any luck on finding a job? |

I didn't go to AIMT but graduated from a program in the area. I don't want to discourage you from entering the field but you should be aware of the market. Search for current job openings in the area (and ignore st Francis- they have had an opening for atleast 3 yrs!).

So if this school is such a scam, why has no one reported them yet? And why has nothing been done? Ive heard a lot of negative about the school. I called all the area hospitals in Tulsa and they all said they will not hire anyone from AIMT, except St.Francis. What does that tell you? AIMT has been trying to get CAAHEP accredited since prior to 2008. Why hasnt it happened by now? |
|
justdoit 17 months ago |
I wonder how you would report them or if there was a way to get your money back? Does anyone know how to do that? If anyone does, tell me how, or if someone else starts the process, I will happily get on board. LOL |

The school is a joke, FLAT OUT a joke, I just graduated from there in August and guess what... Ive been applying for jobs everywhere since about April or May time frame and still nothing... They said they had job placement but really that was just a lie, I cant even tell you how many teachers our class went through, I honestly felt that there was only one person at that place who acted like she cared or that she was trying to help us and that was Gail, as for everyone else... lol well they'll either up and quit on you or just barely teach you anything to get you by, we were also told at the begining of the program that they were going to make it a program to where you could get your associates degree out of it... guess what, that never happened. When people ask me where I went to school I do tell them AIMT but quickly follow it with I do not recommened it to anyone. I would love to get my money back, but Manni made it to where we had to sign so many papers that even if we did want to sue,it wouldnt be possible.. I didnt really hear anything about the school before I went in... I would suggest anyone who is planning on going there to give it some serious thought. |

I think with a good enough lawyer, It could be done. He promised my class they would help find us a job. I graduated in Feb. 09. No such luck. And he told almost all of us, he needed $2,500. down to hold our slot. That place needs shut down or a lawsuit brought against it and I would be more than willing to help in any way possible. We all need to suit for our money back and maybe even paid for our time. Let me know if anyone can find out any info. on this. |

I graduated from the school a few years ago. I currently hold a sonography position. I did have to work for a year before I could sit for my boards. The school taught me everything I needed to know to pass my boards and become a great sonographer. Many employers will hire a student that has to wait 1 year because they can pay them less. Once you pass your boards you will get a raise. I feel great about going to AIMT and would recommend anyone to go there. |

I did not go to AIMT but would strongly encourage any past student to take this idiots suggestion and check on the placement rate! There is no way that they have a rate greater than 75%. And scanning skills have very little to do with it... I can't tell you how many facilities have told me that AIMT students are good scanners but CAN NOT pass the boards. I personally have yet to meet one AIMT graduate that is registered! And I know SEVERAL AIMT grads with 3+ yrs experience. |
|
Watch 16 months ago |
And to that RDmS in Oklahoma that posted earlier... Yes, a couple of yrs ago it was no problem- but due to the influx of AIMT students getting hired then jumping jobs due to not passing boards has put a bad taste in many of the hospitals mouths. You guys can thank your fellow grads for screwing you guys over!

Clearly Realist, you work there. Slander? How about this school being honest and up front? Oh and BTW, I quit prior to being sucked dry of $20,000 because I didnt feel it was a good investment. Im going to take my time and get a Bachelor degree at OU. At least then I will know where my money is going and that I am getting a good education.and while I was attending school at AIMT, my attendance was 100% and because the material was so easy I was making 90+% on everything. Go spew your garbage somewhere else. I was simply trying to get answers, not be harrassed by some idiot who cant try and see the perspective from a student's POV. |

Does making low blows make you feel good Realist? My feelings aren't hurt. I came on this forum, once again, to get answers...not to have a petty argument with someone who works at a local hospital and doesn't know a thing about AIMT and most certainly hasn't experienced the school on a first hand basis, as I and many others on this forum have. Run along, now. Thanks... |
