Old dog sonographer in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma

Watch said: Seriously? Who is the bitter one?
I am a successful sonographer who started out in Tulsa and not bitter about one thing. No, it really upsets me that I get calls every other day from grads looking for jobs and there are none. That upsets me!
If you would have read my reply- before getting your panties in a wad... You would have seen that I said "several" aimt techs. I never said I knew every Tulsa tech nor did I say there were no registered aimt grads. Point is- AIMT does not have a placement rate of 75%. How about you do your research. Thanks for the chuckle.

You are not a sonographer! That comes from paying dues not a test!I know students from your school. They can't find jobs. You lie! By the way I'm a Sonographer and I earned it!

Not from Houston--Former AIMT student. in Houston, Texas

As a graduate of AIMT in 2011 I will say this. The teachers are dedicated and do care, but unfortunately that's not all it takes. I have my physics registry, an awesome resume, and was very driven to get a job. I even traveled and interviewed in other states, I was told by each and every HR lady that interviewed me that it could not happen without at least one registry, which I can't take until I work for a year... If you have a year to volunteer at a hospital full time, awesome go for it- then you'll be able to take the tests you need to get hired. I, and the majority of my classmates don't have that kind of financial flexibility. 3 out of the 22 in my class have gotten jobs, one of which was promised the job before she signed up for the school, and it's 9 months later... Still only 3 employed. Anyone responding to this post with comments on me not being a go-getter or trying hard enough- make judgements as you please but I know I worked my butt off at finding a job... even recruiting agencies would be discouraged to know I didn't have registries and tell me the chance was slim, I still tried, and all who interviewed me said no. I paid 20,500 to go to school here, and was told the program would get accredited and we'd be grandfathered in... Turns out they've been saying that to all the classes, even to a student who graduated in 05. I am now going to an actual school, accredited completely, to be an RN.

Sounds like you're making a great career move. Here is some wisdom, "no matter how long you are employed, you owe it to yourself to mail out 3 resumes a month...and much more so, when unemployed." So, when you get to the otherside of (that) journey (RN), remember my advise and don't re-enroll in another school. (That will only make you looking like an excuse maker...where currently you do not look like one).

Cheers

Actually, our graduating class was 17 students and 6 of us are currently employed and you’re going back to school. The class isn’t doing that bad for being new grads, considering the economy, and the overall job market, the other “99 percenters” unemployed, and the current national protest. Some of our classmates aren’t looking for jobs, for various reasons, you know this; we all talk to each other.
You are correct about the instructors, they do care and they are very dedicated to student success. They sent me job postings every week until I found a job. It was not easy finding a job. I did get very discouraged, but it was well worth it.It sounds like you hit a brick wall,

Good Luck

tulsatiara in Tulsa, Oklahoma said: I was alarmed to view your posting-- and hope to find out more information if possible.

I am about to begin the sonography program at AIMT in August and am constantly researching to find any graduates to ask.....There are no jobs in Tulsa or surrounding areas? What was your overall experience with the school and clinicals? Do you really feel it was a complete waste of money and time or do you have valuable skills that you could use...just havent found the right opportunity? I am really getting concerned and really just want to know the experience of other students who have attended AIMT. It is an expensive investment and quite a sacrifice of time and I do not want to realize a negative truth too late. Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I know this was posted a long time ago, but did you end up going to AIMT? If so, how did/is it going?

Listening in Tulsa, Oklahoma

Looks like it's going good. People step up to complain 10 times faster than they do to applaud. Seems as if you have found what you're looking for, even if it was in a round about way. From what I've noticed at our location, the student body is night and day from what it use to be.
