victory007 henderson in Allen, Texas Are you talking about the abdomen exam OR the SPI which is the Sonography Principles and Instrumentation exam. There is not an exam called SPI Abdomen. If you are asking for information about abdomen = a good resource to start with is the Appleton & Lang for the Ultrasonography Exam. You can find it on amazon.com |

I think registry courses or tutoring would be helpful...It seems alot of ultrasound techs are having trouble passing the registry so that would be something to think about. |

I did everything when I was a student I made sure I went to my clinicals on time. I put extra effort into making sure i showed up and did what I was supposed to do. then when I star working in a hospital it seems everyone seems to be competing against one another. I am not a gossiper I try to do my work and I am very friendly. Then they always find something wrong. I have never missed a pathology, but there is some complaint . Please tell me what to do I am a single mom I need a job. I am registered and my images are excellent. |

If students don’t waste you time worrying, the only person you need to impress is yourself, the reading physician and the ppl who are over you. Do not gossip it will bite you . You may experience harsh judgment. Realize that will only make you a better sonographer. I usually find something my new sonographers can improve on. It is my job to point out every little thing you may be doing wrong to make you better. Be confident without being arrogant. I have been scanning 20 years and I would never say I never missed pathology. If I was to interview a sonographer and that comment was made, I would question if I wanted to hire that person. I would wonder if that personality was a know it all. It is hard to train a know it all. Stress that you are confident in your scanning ability but you realize that there is always room for learning something new every day.

If it gets to the point that you cant take it anymore, you do have the experience to move on to a place that is more suited for you and since you are also registered that shouldnt even be a problem. Still, work is work, so if leaving isnt an option i think its best to just be the better person in this whole situation and ignore them. be mature about it and realize you can not please everyone. Everything passes eventually, so stick it out. Things cant possibly stay this way forever!!

I am open to criticism. I welcome help. I have been in the field for 4 yrs now, and every place I go there is some fault found even the Director of Radiology saying I am not good enough for her hospital, although my images are excellent and I try to do my job to the best of my ability. They even said i was rude to a Radiologist when it was not me it was the other new employee as we both started together it was assumed it was me. I am the same person that wrote in before. I am a single parent and need a job as a Sonographer. What do I do .I am friendly to everyone and i do not gossip. |

I do not know the situation, but I did see something in you, pleae do not get mad at me:) I am just trying to help you. first , you are the type of person who do not want to be told that you are wrong, you may not realize it, but it seems the case to me:) second, you do not show your appreciation, why? You did not mention Sper in Ville Platte from Louisiana and KRO in Hialeah from Florida on your last post, and to say thanks to them since they both spent their time to help you, and they both are concerned about your situation. If a person cannot accept the critism, and do not show your appreciation, you will have trouble to get along with others, I mean no matter which field you work. You got the job out of school, and the techs of your lab must spent a lot of time to train you, do not tell me you can do it on your own right out of school, since that cannot be true. If you do not like to hear the techs point out the things you need to work on, and meanwhile you do not appreciate their helps, I do not see how you can stay any longer than 3 months. I am just out of school, and I was the top student in my school, I passed ARDMS the first time right after school, and on my interview, I told the exactly what I can do and what I need help on. Just be real! |

My manager has worked in this field for 30 years, he had poblished articles and books about ultraound, and he told me the mistaks that he made. Please do not ever say you never miss any pothology again, that just does not sound real. I made new mistakes everyday on the first month of my job as a sonographer, and I had cried for it, the manager told me that everybody makes mistakes, and includes him. He also said that he expected me to make mistakes because I am just out of school, school teach us the fundation, and the job helps to buid up the experince. My point is that do not feel bad or you have to fight back when some body point out the mistakes you might made, just stay back, watch and learn...respect the other techs, respect the rediologists, the physicians, and be confident but not arrogant. Hope I did not upset you more, I am being honest with you and trying to let you know how others see you. GOOD LUCK on your career!!! |

My point is however someone always takes my name back to the Director instead of talking directly to me first if they do see that trait in me. I am not a confrontative person I am very calm and friendly so no one should find it hard to speak to me. What I dont think is fair though is them taking my name back to the dept heads and therefore putting me under a microscope when I am farily new and possibly costing me my job. I would not do that to a coworker as I know everyone needs a job in these times. This is what I am talking about. Thanks for your feeback I welcome it. |

Re- evaluates this situation - you can't change it so change your views on it. First of all - Do not trust anyone with personal information at your employment. Be friends but WORK friends. No personal stuff, you will be judged. You say you would never do that to a co worker, there are things you would tell if the situation would arise if you job depended on it. NOW, be glad they are going to your supervisor with their complaints and not whispering in the department. That is protocol. As technical director, I tell all the girls under me if they have a problem with me, DO NOT TELL the secretary, nurse etc. I want them to go to the office manager with the complaint. With them going to the supervisor/ manager, you can defend yourself and express your views and even suggest ways YOU can make the situation better. Remember your job is not about YOU. If the radiologist felt you were rude, apologize for the misunderstanding and express ways to avoid this situation in the future. You must be humble but confident. PS. I was considered a trouble maker by my fellow students and instructor 20 years ago. They did not understand my personality, my instructor ( an amazing ed |

shortperson_7@yahoo.com: Anywhere you work you can face the same issues so stay strong and try to work it out. It does sound like you have a very high opinion of yourself when you describe yourself as having excellent images, never miss pathology, don't gossip, you don't think you are rude. The problem with this is you express perfection. You are not perfect - no one is. This opinion in itself is probably coming across. It is great you are registered but that does not make you a good tech. Accept criticism and show gratitude for other techs teaching you or polishing you. I agree with what Sper said. You should not talk about you private life at work keeping the people you work with at a distance. There has been competition everywhere I have worked. The key is to be nice, work hard and stay out of the drama. If it does not improve after the holidays I would suggest applying for another job but just think about the fact that it could be like that there as well. |

I am sorry i came across that way the reason maybe because I have built up a wall because of all the criticism and bad luck I have been having in the field. I start working somone goes back to the Director to say something and I am under the microscope. Then the Director tells me I have a bad perception out there and will never be an Ultrasound Tech. They said it was coming from my clinical site as a student. I never worked there I was just a student. Do you think that is fair to me being not that long in the field for this to be happening . Please tell me what to do. I need to work I am a single mother her is South Florida |

I have never told anyone personal stuff but there are a few people who went to scholl with me who works for the same company and they know a little about my personal life as they came to my home a couple of times. Other than that though I am pretty quiet. What happened is the coworker took my name back to the Director of the Radiology Dept, instead of asking me about the problem she had with me or even going to our floor supervisor. This is where i had a problem she did not have to take it that far as now I was put under a microscope by all the heads of radiology. That does not feel good. What do I do I am a single mom here in south Florida |

You should make connections whether or not you are looking for a job now or later because you never know when you will need that connection if there are cutbacks or you move or a better position comes along etc...IMHO there are jobs for the people that can scan well, are registered and have experience. For those that don't it's going to be tough out here in CA since it's so saturated with grads and unregistered techs have you counted the schools within 100 miles that offer ultrasound certificates?... so get connections if you can. |

Hey, I am looking into an Ultrasound Tech program and I am having such a hard time finding one. I have found HoHokus Rets in Nutley, NJ for vascular sonography and after your externship you can sit for RVS through CCI. I have just found another school Micro Tech Training Center. I havn't done much research on this school bc I just found out about it. I was wondering if anyone has been to either of these schools. I would really prefer the full ultrasound program but I am not sure if it is accredited to where I will beable to sit for the ARDMS right after. Any information is helpful on either school. Thank you. Congrats to all that passed. |

I went to the general U/S program at Sanford Brown in Iselin NJ. This is the only San Brown that is accredited in the area no matter what the representatives in the NY sectors tell you.It is a 18 month program you can go during the day or at night, I went at night, It worked better for me and the teacher is awesome. When you are done you can sit for the Abdo and OBGYN. And if you get close with the vascular teacher there you can probablly get the teach to sign off on the test for vascular as well. The last 4-6 months is full time externship if you do it 40 hours a wweek youcan finish it full time. Depending on your placment you can work various housrs at the externship as well. Check it out.. |

Unless you have a real attitude problem then I am sure people are just trying to help you. Dont get defensive and realize that at the end of he day it is in the best interest of the patient. Everybody was taught a little different and as I have moved to various places I have slightly changes what I was taught and adapted to all have different requirements. As with any job it is about doing what you need to do to keep the supervisors happy without sacrificing patient care. Just remember that being a registered tech doesnt mean you scan well. People can be book smart and scan terribly. This profession is about learning. I wish you luck. |
