Has anyone heard that SB lost their accredidation? If that is true, they are not hardly worth the money. They are not worth it even if they haven't lost it yet. Too bad for all thouse students who could have gone to a more reasonably priced alternative, and I don't mean IAMP, or what ever name they go by now. |

Sanford Brown is listed as an accredited school on CAAHEP's website which governs the accredidation of the schools. |

Happy in Atlanta, Georgia said: IMU is a very good school, I graduated from IMU in 2009 and I can say I loved every minute of it. I was able to sit and pass my registry within months of my grad date. I am now employed and very happy. I don't feel as if you will go wrong by attending IMU. Did you have a long waiting period before beginning your coursework at IMU? I have heard some buzz about the Atlanta job market being saturated with ultrasound technicians. What was your experience for interning and after graduation? |

He has a lot of locations and from what I hear has been on the board at Grady and covers a bunch of hospitals in the various counties. I assumethrough his connections he opens doors. I had a problem with a clinical site and after I spoke to the school another site in a physician office was presented, which I loved. I literally started scanning immediately from the beginning of school. we are in scan labs for the 1st term. When I have been aroudn students from other schools they admit we get much more hands on from what they seemed to have experienced. I wish you the best, but take a close look at them and compare. |

I heard Mcdonough Health Career has opened under a new name, be careful and look out for that school. It's the same people and the same mess. Also heard Adam Internationl has closed. Whats going on with these Mom and Pop schools. All I can say is be careful. The good thing is I was ALMOST a student od Mcdonough Health Career. I decided to go to IMU instead, that was the best thing I could have done. |

I attended McDonough for 5 mos, people and instructors were nice enough, BUT its all about the $$$. They had us training on an outdated piece of equipment, 12-15 yrs old. Then the $$$ all ran out, then the teachers all quit. Stay away from this school if they STILL are not accredited. |

Donna, did you decide to commute to Rome? I am also from Alpharetta and am wondering how the drive is. |

Georgia Tech. Do your research, practically all companies in GA recruit employees from GA Tech. Go read the affiliated list on GA tech. I work at Coke and all the executives at Coke come from GA tech. |

I know it'll primarily depend on the person's intellect but I haven't been in school for 10 years and wanted to know if anyone is able to slightly measure the degree of difficulty upon entering the program? I graduated from Sanford Brown and I am here to tell you it's a tough program. I had previously studied architecture and engineering at a 4 year college, and this program was just as rigorous. If you sign up, be ready to give up your life for 18 months! Tough but worth it!

Julia, have you been able to gain employment since graduating? Also, have you passed the registry test yet? What hospitals did you do your clinicals at? I am considering enrolling in this program and already have a BA and dont want them to try to sell me the MA certificate before enrolling in the program. Also, was the school and daily environment professional on a consistant basis? I am nervous with all I have read and do not want to invest 30,000 in a cert I will not be able to use. I just want to get a picture of the current environment and stigma of the college compared to years past postings on the forum. Sorry for all of the questions, and thank you in advance. |

Hi, I did my externship at Central GA Heart Center in Macon. Many of my classmates did their externships at hospitals all around the Atlanta area. 8 out of 20 have jobs. I am not employed yet. However I did take the CCI registry exam on Feb. 9th and pass it and took the ARDMS Adult Echo on March 29th and passed it as well. Additionally, Sanford Brown's cardiovascular sonography program has been APPROVED for CAAHEP accreditation. You will not go wrong with the program. We were equipped with everything we needed to go in and pass registries. But I warn you, it's tough. When you start this program, be prepared to put the rest of your life on hold for 2 years. It's fast paced and intense.

Hi Michele, don't think my response posted so will try again! I graduated in October and passed CCI in Feb & ARDMS adult echo in March. I did clinicals at Pediatric Cardiology in Lawrenceville and externship at Central GA Heart Center in Macon. Most of my classmates did externships at hospitals around Atlanta. 8 of 20 are employed now. So far I am not. Also, SB has just been approved for CAAHEP accreditation. I can tell you that I got absolutely everything I needed to go sit for registries and pass them on the first shot. I can also tell you that I studied my rear end off! I would say that if you want to go into this field, you will not find a better source in the Atlanta area.

Thank you for the prompt response. Was the environment professional? Did all of the lab machines work/were up to date? Did you get enough hours to practice scanning? Did your financial aid go smoothly throughout the program? I have read quite a few posts on rip off report of students aid getting messed up. Also, what was the reaction from those at your clinical sites when they found out what school you were attending? Positive, negative? Lastly, did they have you participate in the medical assistant program? I know it is a lot of questions. I just would like to be sure and am glad that I found an actual grad to bounce questions off of. |

Hi everyone, I need a little advice. I want to go to school for Ultrasound Tech specializing in OB and I'm trying to find a school in Atlanta to go to. So far it seems like my only option is Grady Hospital, but they only offer a certificate program. From research, your chances of getting hired is better when you have an Assoc. degree in the field. Would I be wasting my time getting a certificate in this field? If so, what other schools can I attend that's accreditated and I can recieve an Assoc. degree? Also, whats the likelyhood of me getting a job after this degree or certificate, being that I want to concentrate in OB only? Thanks for any help or advice :-) |

Trust me, employers don't care if you have a degree or not. They just want to know that you are registered and most importantly, IF YOU CAN SCAN. If you want a degree, there is a school in Savannah GA (can't remember the name) that offers a degree. If you go to Grady, you WILL get a job because the school has such a good reputation for putting out good students. Grady is also good for hiring their graduates. I went to Grady and was working a week after graduation. I have never had a problem getting a job. The problem with most schools is that the students can't scan after they graduate. You get the best training at Grady no matter what field you go into(that's why Emory residents do there training there). |

And when you went to Grady what did you go for and are you currently work there now? Would you happen to know how much an Ultrasound Tech in OB starts off making at Grady or any hospital just off a certificate? |
