I can't seem to find any schools near me here in Southern NJ, nor any in nearby PA. Does anyone know of a school or institute that offers ultrasound/sonography courses? I am searching for a school (with accredited courses) that is a commutable distance since i can not relocate. Unfotunately i can't find anything & i just don't know what to do at this point. help please!!! |

Hi, anyone thinking about Ultrasound profession, may i say, rethink........and don't believe what they say at schools- lots and lots of untrue stuff. And you might just learn the hard way, when you have to repay your loans and no job. I don't want to sound discouraging but this is reality. From my class(about 30)only 6 are working. They have huge amounts to pay back and no jobs. If anyone asks about US tech profession-PASS, Please.

If you are looking for basic and advanced training in abdominal and peripheral vascular ultrasound, please keep me in mind. I can help you become prepared for the competitive world of ultrasound. The training I offer is directly with patients and can be in groups or in private- you choose what method of learning you'd like. If you have little time, I can give you crash courses in abdomen and peripheral vascular ultrasound. For more details, please reach me at charles.segovia@gmail.com. |

Yes, it's very difficult when your new which is why I highly recommend attending a CAAHEP accredited program, which is listed on their website. In NJ there is Sanford-Brown Institute (no CAAHEP accredited), formerly UDS and a program at Morristown Memorial Hospital, which is CAAHEP accredited. When you get your clinical rotations, insist on a good site and demand that they have you scanning. If you are not scanning at your clinical rotation and just sitting around, then you must ask your program director to switch you or look around and suggest an alternate site. This is what a good program is made of -- one that can get you into a good clinical rotation (really key!). As soon as you graduate prepare for and take you ARDMS tests for Adult Echo & Vascular. It's really good to have both these days. And get cross-trained in echo and vascular-- most out-patient/office jobs want you to be able to do both and mobile firms too! It's a tough order, but this is what I've leared. A lot of what these programs are doing is very misleading and this has got to stop! I don't know why the states don't do more to prevent this! Well, good luck to anyone who persues this career-path. You must like hard work. And it is physically demanding. The plus is job security (but IF you have your certification/registries), you don't start making good money until you have 3-5 years experience and you can apply for a supervisory position or have multiple registries. The best way you can ensure that you make good money is to get multiple registries (Adult/Ped echo, vascular, general, etc.). Even though they (the physicians) are desperate for technicians, they are still demanding in as far as what they want, an experienced tech with versatility in modalities, multiple registries, and very good at what they do! But, be aware, you will not get rich doing ultrasound unless you try to start a national mobile ultrasound company which is what some exp techs trying to do!! |

Thomas Jefferson offers a bachelor degree. By the way, they are very, very expensive. The tuition is around $25,000 a year plus books. |

kat in Woodbury, New Jersey said: did you attend the GCC program? If you did, was it any good. getting ready to apply for the program. Hello, I did not enroll. I foolishly skipped school, bounced around to different temp jobs before being re-hired at the mortgage company that had laid me off in 2007. They just laid me off again. So now i am definitely returning to school, considering the GCC program or maybe even going for physical therapy. Good luck to you, let me know how it is going for you & hope you like the program. I may consider going to GCC or maybe to Burlington County College..... |
