LETS, STOP COMPLAINING AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE BACKGROUND CHECKS. I AM PROPOSING THAT WE MARCH ON THE STATE HOUSE TO LET THE LEGISLATORS KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON WITH THESE BACKGROUND CHECKS AND PROPOSE A RESOULUTION. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN HELPING ME SET UP THIS MARCH OR WANT TO GET INVOLVED PLEASE EMAIL marilyntaylor@bellsouth.net. THIS MARCH WILL DO SEVERAL THINGS WITH THE FIRST BEING MAKE THE LEGISLATORS AWARE, GETTING OTHER RESOURCES INVOLVED FOR, EXAMPLE THE CIVIL LIBERTIES UNION AND THE PRESS. JUST SPEAKING TO ONE ANOTHER ABOUT THIS SITUATION IS NOT ENOUGH AND WE SHOULD BECOME PROACTIVE THROUGH PEACEFUL MARCHES THROUGHTOUT THE CITY. WHO KNOWS WE MAY EVEN GET EMPLOYERS CALLING WHO WILL HIRE FELONS. I SAY LETS GET TO WORK AND FIX THIS THING.

LOUIS ARNOLD in Atlanta, Georgia said: I have been looking for work the past three month no luck,I have a bond by the state of ga. most company tell me even with the bond there insurance company just want insurance a felony.By the way Iam a felony

What it all boils down to is this........When you look at what women with through when they tried to enter the work force, they faced objections by men. They banded together and protested to enter the work force. When African americans were prohibited rights that caucasians held, they protested in many forms and eventually gained some rights. When gays sought to be treated as others in spite of their sexual preferences, they rallied and gained what we call Gay Rights. When Mexican americans were faced with racism, they too stood up and accomplished a great deal. Now us as ex felons are oppressed and opposed by the same system, we are a group of people just as women were, just as African american were, just as gays were, just as Mexican americans were.....So, what are we going to do cause coporates of this country feel that we hold no worth and continue to keep us in down troddened position......

Donna in Atlanta, Georgia said: My son is facing a life of difficulty because of a stupid mistake he made 4 years ago when he was 18. He was arrested and convicted of possessing 1 (yes, one) Xanax tablet. For that he was given a felony, which he must carry for the rest of his life.

I always thought felonies were reserved for REAL criminals - rapists, armed robbers, murderers. But my son has never stolen from anyone, never hurt anyone, has never done anything except be a teenager lacking good judgment at the time.

I think it's wrong how quickly and easily felonies are thrown at people, especially young people. They don't always consider consequences, but they have their entire lives ahead of them and they shouldn't have their future ruined because of a stupid mistake.

It's no wonder the prison recidivism rate is so high in this country. People have no chance of turning their life around. It's a shame there isn't an organization out there that would fight for people who aren't criminals but who are treated as if they are.

Right now my son is working with a friend in a landscaping company, but he wants to be able to do something better. I pray he'll get the chance. Good luck to everyone. I hope things work out for each of you.

You are the type of people we face every time we are turned down for a job. Becasue your son was caught with (1) Xanax, he is exempt. No welcome to our reality. It's people like you who stand back and point the finger at us, who are violent offenders, but your son is in the samme category as us. Think on that soccer mom.

What it all boils down to is an open and bold march to Washington , D.C. We should be requesting for one another's contact and mobilizing. It is no mistery as to why we are going through what we are going through. Why keep asking why and a crying about the issue. It's a set up to deny us employment so that we can violate our paroles and/or catch another case only to be returned. Now it's what ever with me.....Now get at me if you are serious about petitioning the government for a redress in this matter. Other than that, quit crying about your situation......

I was honest on the application by marking yes to "do you have a felony", they still did a background check, I worked 3 days just to be told they couldn't keep me. This is the 3rd job in a role that have fired me because of my past. It's 4yrs old. I have several shopplifting offensives, but have since changed my life, went back to school for an associates degree in Health Information Tech (almost finished)maintaining a 4.0 gpa and still can find a job in the medical field. I feel hopeless. e-mail me if anyone knows of a company that will hire someone with experience in medical billing/office Administrative/receiptionist. tnmckthn@hotmail.com

It sounds like more of a problem with the US Justice system. Why don't they just give you the choice to stay in prison with free rent, free cable, and free gym membership; if they are not going to let you be employed to support yourself? The Justice system encourages you to rob people to survive, and then they have a reason to slam you with more fines and bills you will never be able to afford. If I were you, I would move to a different country.

Expungements only apply to certain misd. convictons and all "charges" that show up on your record. Hate to bear such bad news. Be wary of any online services that promise any felony conviction expungement, it's just a scam.

I was lied to just after my birthday and spent 5 years then got out 2001- I been married and full custody of my boys --I want to live not just survive or fall deeper into poorness. I learned construction/landscaping/excavation/ being a lead caterer all on my own--- no one to teach me... have my ged. been a single father roughly 6 years and no one will give me a real chance to be successful... I dream of being a architect & building designer. I been a artist all my life. this is the life you get when you trust a female and she lies about her age. I dont want to be a millionare but i would like to make about 40-60k a year to eventually send my boys to collage. A chance i didnt get. All this after my own mother dropped me somewhere at the age of 12 almost 13 and told me to never come back home. A five year contract with a good architect firm would be a miracle. I WANT IT ! Is there a place in seattle would take me on? luxuryremodel.jimdo.com

I was charged with Robbery and aggravated assault in the 3rd degree in NJ. Now I have completely turned my life around, and I apply to like 50 or 60 jobs a day, get like 10 interviews a week. They are all saying how much they want me to work there and how many positions they have available. UNTIL, they find out, Oh I have a record by the way...... then they are like, oh we found someone more qualified, or they will straight out tell me, oh that disqualifies you sorry... Or they say we will call you back in a few days, and NEVER DO... I am not stupid. I'm tired of this crap, I made some bad mistakes in my life, and now that I have changed nobody will hire me for a job?????????? What am I supposed to do? not be able to support myself?????????? Its really messed up how this country treats its people. But we are not people anymore, we are animals, either made to beg on the side of the road to the more fortunate, or commit more crimes and fill the jail systems to make the government strive off the money they make off of us. Feeding us the same food they feed their dogs with. I never had a problem with the government until I went to jail, and been through all of my legal struggles as a teen. But I am glad that this happened to me, because now I see the government and its followers for who they really are

Now I have to edit my posts online, so I guess there is no more freedom of speech?? Oh wait I got that right, along with every other right stripped from me when I made a mistake in my life, I mean became a felon, sorry government I will watch what I say from now on I swear please don't violate my probation

Did you receive a first offender discharge status? If so expungement is an option as well as if you are interested in working in public service such as fireman, emt, etc. Many rural areas accept firefighters on a volunteer basis such as barnesville and thomaston ga. This would give u the documentation you need to get it expunged. There are expungement laws and services available, u just have to find your loophole.

While it's true the the First Offender Status allows for the conviction to be removed, it is recieved at sentencing from the Judge. If you didn't receive the first offender status at your sentencing then YOU CANNOT get your (felony conviction) expunged in the State Of Georgia and that's it! There are no loopholes, this is the law! Any online service that claims to do so is a sham. The best thing that a Georgia convicted felon can hope for later on is a pardon. However it's not worth the paper it's printed on to employers. A pardon in Georgia doesn't remove your convictions from your record. Please learn GA law before spreading false hope to people.

Everyone that has a felony and,or has family member that has a felony needs to get together and come up with a petition to get new policys set for us. Right now, with the way things are going, we will all have no choice but to turn back to a life of crime in order to survive if we don't get help. With the right petiiton and the right official behind us, we can change things. Please, if anyone knows how to organize and get the right person to speak for us, do so. Because there's more people just like us and together we can make a difference. Email me at lilmickey1977@yahoo.com if you can get something started.

The problems in society is not fixed by taking opportunities away from people who have made mistakes. The Law is violating itself by thinking this is a good remedy. If a person has paid his/her debt to society it would be unjust to place the debt back on that person after the person has been released. The Law is also violating its self when it grants the public "which has nothing to with the law" to have access of information on people who paid their debt to society to used that personal information for making decision and placing back the debt by disqualifying them for something they already paid for. This is called life sentence. Yet the person was not incarcerated for life. It is also wrong for the law to take away the rights of a person when abligation have been met. Jails should be the alternate punishment anything after that should be restoration. There is know need for the system to continue to damage a persons life. I am a strong believer that if a person committs a crime they should paid for it.
