cgroncki in Saint Louis, Missouri said: Don't work for Giant Food They will tell I hate to say it, but who doesn't. You think a lot of these bloated job requirements listed on job-finding web sites are accurate? Absolutely not. Job descriptions often sound a lot harder than they really are. A job where you do nothing but file papers all day is now called a technician or analyst position. Why? The bottom line is that most companies do "lie" to some extent to get you to take a look at their add. Would you want to apply for a job that had an add that read, "Looking for someone to do repetitive tasks 8-9 hours a day, 5 days a week. A monkey could do this job, but we're told we aren't allowed to hire them. There is little to no opportunity for advancement, so you'll be stuck at a low hourly wage until you get fed up and leave for another crappy job. We look forward to hearing from YOU!" |

I worked there for a year and a half... I left making $6.50 started as a bagger at $5.40 (something like that), ended as cashier... they still owe me a check... |

Upper Managment ALWAYS want's the employees who are in the stores doing the "grunt" work to give something up for the good of the company. By give something up I mean they take hours out of the store and expect more work out of the few manning the departments and now they are asking for later hours and cutting hours on our Sunday overtime day. We have been told that these moves are for the good of the company to help the company financially. My question is this "What are the supervisors giving up ot help the company financially?" I propose that they give up their HUGE bonuses until the company is on stable financial ground again. Then they can ask the employees to give something up! |

i work there now. and i make 6.60. its horrible. they told me i would be a bagger. and they have me doing ppu. and now im turning sixteen soon and hear that im not going to be a cashier! but a shelf stocker! plus, they make me mop floors, clean bathrooms and take out trash. and i did not sign up to clean any bathrooms. its ridiculous. and my boss is like foreign and i cant understand what he says. and she dont get our schedules until saturday when the schedule starts on that sunday! so we get one day notice of when we have to work! because my incompetant boss cant do anything! and he also cant schedule people correctly, sometimes we have three baggers schedules and only two cashiers. its ridiculous. noone likes working there. it the worst job ever! dont work there! |

Yea I used to work there for 5 years..I started off as a bagger and went to grocery. David White, the HR manager fired me over something that wasnt even my fault. I wish they would have given me the opportunity to quit-giant is horrible anyway ever since they merged with stop and shop oh and my ending pay was like 8 something and I make 12 dollars now. Giant is a dead end job and I hope it Royal Ahold's stock crashes and they go bankrupt. |

Yeah I went in for an interview today to work in the deli dept. Ive had 4 year experience with different kinds of meats and meat preparation so i figured i was more than qualified for the job. They tryed to offer me 7.50/hour to start, 1.50 lower than my last job. I went home to get my birth certificate and promptly, didnt return. I always wondered why none of the Giant employees never looked very happy, even the ones that are payed to put on that smile. They dont pay well, at all. Im pretty sure Safeway, or Food Lion pays alott better. My sister was making 12/hour as a cashier at safeway. |

Huh. I started in deli @9.50/hr, then switched to night crew at the same pay rate, but with the overnight bonues i get $10.00/hr. They like to cut part-timer hours towards the mid-points between holidays (i.e. between July 4th and Labor Day) but they then load up hours near holidays. I do agree they like to "save money" by scheduling less people for a shift and then expecting us to remain at rate by working 3 times as hard, and they wonder why stuff doesn't get done on time. |
