I have a PhD in a technical field and can't land a lab job. What gives?

I have a PhD in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, with lots of technical skill in a broad range of areas (pharmaceutics, molecular biology, biochemistry, drug characterization) and I just can't land a job. I spent a year and a half right after my PhD working as an editor. Could this be the cause of my inability to land a laboratory job? Does anyone have experience changing careers and then deciding to go back to the original career?

Employers today are so picky. They might not like that.

Usually smaller companies would take a look at you.

Good Luck.
