Professor at Play in Charlottesville, Virginia

The University of Virginia is obviously a major employer, SNL Securities seems to be upping their recruitment efforts, Whole Foods Markets is supposedly moving to a new, larger location (and is a top 100 workplace), and many retail establishments seem to be opening, but Charlottesville remains a university town without too much industry and job growth, I perceive, other than in services and retail. The housing crunch has affected things as well, according to my realtor friends (so a good time to move here, prehaps). Just my .02.

Actually the college professor works for the largest generator of "smoke and mirrors" based irrational exuberance in the area, UVA. UVA was once a well respected academic institution, but then it was hi-jacked a few years ago by some administrators with huge egos. The result is that now UVA is better known for it's academically unqualified "stoodent athletes" who would be better served attending a community college rather than a four year institution (other than prison). UVA has cooked up Virginia Sports Marketing to get all of the locals jazzed up about the reform school teams otherwise known as the football and basketball teams. Funny thing, you seldom hear anything about the rest of the University except these teams. Oh well, I guess this is how dumbing down works.
