I thought I might ask here since I've really been searching all over for some type of insight. I feel like applying through the online job boards and websites aren't helping much, but I'm really wondering how you get an "in" at these companies. I've really been trying for the past 2-3 years, while working jobs that I'm really not crazy about.

I don't mind sending my resume out, but after sending out a resume for every advertising job that comes up and coming up empty, it becomes very disheartening.

Does anyone have any advice? Should I say forget Chicago and look in another city? Should I say quit the industry altogether and just settle for something that is just going to pay the bills?

I work in an advertising agency, and I would be happy to send your resume to recruiting, depending on what you're looking for. No guarantees though, as pretty much any resume I've sent them for potential recruits seems to end up ignored.

I know that many agencies, as well as many other companies, wants to skip on posting job ads and instead get their employees to bring in referrals. I know it sucks and it probably isn't very fair, but that's their world. So anyway you can try to network with advertising professionals is probably your best bet. I would also look directly on their websites as opposed to job boards.
