It couldn't have been due to all the "classic" porn URLs and cookies found on your laptop could it?

With all the sleaze that goes on here, I doubt porn would be a reason to let somebody go, Frankie. It was probably had more to do with how childish and back-stabbing people tend to be. Brierley has a rotating door and it's mostly because people who can't do the job are let go and the rest of us who are good at our job would jump at the first opportunity to get out of this environment. Here's hoping to a better job economy and job market this year!

Actually, because I don't want anyone to get the wrong impression and come off as overly jaded, I'd like to state that in some ways, working at Brierley does have benefits. You learn to be a little more guarded in speaking your opinions or offering advise to others, employees who know how to negotiate or are in management positions are compensated well, and if you get any talk-time with external clients, the accompanying title-inflation (ie. "bank teller" = "client associate", which is why it's so top-heavy here) you get will help with future job searches.

Wade in Dallas, Texas said: Kurt, I am with a I.T. Search firm in Dallas and would like to find out if this organization has any good talent in their technical area? We are always on the lookout for that good talent, including yourself.

Wade, as far as IT goes, from what I've seen, there's only maybe a couple of people who actually know what they're doing. Requests to IT usually take an act of God or, at the very least, top-level management to be completed in a timely manner and even then, there are usually errors that have to be ironed out in "panic mode". I know your job is to find "good matches" of job reqs and skill sets, but you may lose some clients if you place some of our IT people elsewhere. Again, I don't want to sound harsh, but I call it as I see it.

To others considering working here, I'd suggest thoroughly researching what past and present Brierley employees think of working there. You can see some people's background and experience on sites like linkedin.com. Decide if working with these backgrounds will allow you to grow your skills or if you'll become the "go-to" person, having to do most of the work. If you're looking to leave a job to come aboard, give it strong consideration. Decide if you're willing or unhappy enough to leave a known quantity for one that may be more hostile or temporary; as in, if you don't like it or get fired like Kurt, could you live off of unemployment or without salary for a while given the current economy. I can say that this is not the worst job I've had, but is a far cry from the best and, knowing what I know now, I never would have taken the position regardless of the salary increase.

Brierley is actually a great place to work. These comments must be from sour grapes. After all, people don't tend to post anything positive on sites that are intended for b*t*h sessions. I've been here for 3 years and the turnover is the lowest I've ever seen at a company. To Heath's comment - most companies paying you to do a job would let you go if you weren't doing that job. Anyone reading this site and anticipating working for them should judge for yourself rather than listening to anonymous posts.

As I pointed out in my comments, anyone looking to work @ Brierley should actively seek out other people working here and get feedback before making a decision (particularly in this economy). I would like to point out that the turnover *is*, in fact, higher than most other places I've worked at in the past (mid-/large corporatations), but this may be the norm for this type of industry. I've always been under the impression that smaller businesses had lower turnover.

I'd also like to point out how amusing it is that the person stating what a "great place it is to work" and citing the low turnover happens to work Human Resources.

Please note that Ms. Kirby is Human Resources. If you'd like real opinions of people that work here, I'd suggest contacting someone you might find here:

5) Judge for yourself: I totally agree, except that it would be hard to take a position then decide against it after you left your prior job. That's why I suggested seeing input from current/former employees.

I'll, once again, state that working at B+P isn't the worst fate in the world, but it also isn't for everyone. I had multiple recruiters both for and against me coming here. Though, the fact that someone in management logs in deceptively to post positively, then changes her name when caught, I think, speaks volumes.

Interesting that my post got pulled. Just to repost what was pulled: The response from "Loyalist" should be taken with a grain of salt. The profile originally was listed as Tami Kirby, who works in HR at b+p, but was subsequently changed to Vicki Smith. Emails sent to the Vicki Smith's email address bounce because there is no Vicki Smith working here.

I found the last response to be hilarious. Never ask HR what the "pulse" of the company is.... of course it will be a great place too work.

I am a recent college graduate that is interested in a position at this company. Does anyone have any insight on the sas data analyst position? is the turnover high for that position? and what is the typical starting pay...oh and also, any tips to set me apart from the pack in a potential interview would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

That's precisely why she changed her name. Any one with half a brain or who really wanted to work there would do some research before hand, including clicking the profile of a poster saying it was a great place to work, then realize during the interview process that "Gee, the person posting happens to be HR."

The turnover has improved and the boss for that area is nice. I would suspect, though I couldn't say on experience that starting pay would be higher than at some other place. As I said, BP compensates well if you know how to game it.

I found this old email correspondance I had about my short tenure at Brierley:
Here was my experience with Brierley:

I was hired on July 30th as a unix administrator working under Judy Ford. I was told that doing backups of the company's servers using Legato would be part of my job. To that point I had only used it a few times at my previous job at Amerpath. I had never been an administrator for it but was willing to learn. During the month of August, I was also told that I was to do work on the ftp servers and to add in MAC addresses to a firewall to allow remote logins by employees. I was not given any information on how to do either of these tasks by the only other Unix administrator because he said he was too busy.
When the other unix administrator went on vacation the week of September 10th, he did not tell me he was going and Judy expected me to handle the incoming ftp and MAC address requests when I had been given no instructions on how to complete them nor any root access to the involved servers. One of the cardinal rules in the administration world is to let everyone know when you're going on vacation and to make sure there is someone to do your tasks when you're not there.
My first managerial review with Judy came on September 20th, the week before I was scheduled to attend a week-long training class on Legato at EMC's training facility in Dallas. When I came in for the meeting, she asked me if I had completed the upgrade of the Legato Networker Software on the backup server I was administering. The other Unix admin had told me that this was a priority as the other two backup servers already had been upgraded to the new version. I told her I had not as of yet as I was needing guidance from the other Unix admin who had done the upgrade before on the other servers.
Judy gave me below-par review because I had not yet done any of the ftp or MAC address tickets even though she knew the other Unix admin had never taken the ti

Continued..
Judy gave me below-par review because I had not yet done any of the ftp or MAC address tickets even though she knew the other Unix admin had never taken the time to show me how to do it during the past six weeks. This angered me but I tried to be diplomatic and said the other admin probably would have the time once I got back from my training the following week.
When I got back to my desk, I decided to go ahead and do the upgrade of the Legato Networker software as Judy had asked before our review meeting. I had already spoken to EMC's support and they said there should be no problems with upgrading the software. I asked the other Unix admin the location of the upgrade package and he showed it to me. However when I installed the new version, it deleted all the configuration databases for the Legato server thus all the information about which servers and directories to back up as lost. I sent an email out to Judy to let her know and she said that her notes from the meeting said that I had said I would do this after I got back from training. I told her that was not the case, it was only the ftp and MAC address aspects that I was holding off until after I returned. She copied a reply to our senior manager saying her notes didn't say that, thus implying that I was a liar while trying to cover her rear.
The next day I was on the phone with EMC support when she sent me an email saying my training was canceled and to just come in to the office next week. I called EMC and they said the class was still on so obviously Judy had lied about the that.
The process to get the Legato Networker software's databases was very time consuming but I got it back on Saturday morning, ran all the backups to get them all back up to date and everything was fine. I got praise from the other Unix admin and the manager of the group in the Brierley office in Carrollton where the backup server was located.
The following Tuesday Judy came in with a woman fo

from HR and told me I was terminated. She gave no answer when I questioned her as to why I wasn't given any unix work. It seems obvious that she threw me under the bus when the problem arose with the backup server and decided that I was to be fired even though there was no damage done, I was praised by my co workers and I did it all with no admin training on Legato.
