I have never heard of a more unprofessional city! Why don't employers call you back after an interview to let you know you didn't get the job??? I have never seen such unprofessionalism, and just plain rudeness! |

Get used to it, honey. That's the way it is all over. Employers don't give a rats a$$ about anything but themselves. |

Not surprising. Employers and their HR talking heads will talk about how they want people with integrity and communication skills and then show themselves to be extremely weak in these categories. What you end up getting back from them is a combination of extreme timidity, laziness and a total lack of common decency. |

I can't get used to Broomfield or Colorado in general and the "attitudes" of employers. I just moved here from Georgia and having the hardest time finding employment. I have had many interviews and they don't have the courtesy to call you back and let you know you bombed, not even one of those ever so nice, thanks but no thanks letters in the mail!!!! |

I never heard one word from them. That was 2 weeks ago. |

I've lived here on and off for most of my life, and I must agree with both of you. A year ago I interviewed for a paralegal position with a law firm in Glendale. The interviewer said she would e-mail me an online Microsoft Office test (?) and would call me by the end of the next week. She never e-mailed the test, nor did she call me or send me a rejection letter. I appreciate that companies are bombed with resumes daily and cannot respond to each one. But no followup after an in-office, in-person interview on the professional staff is inexcusable in every way. Several months before, I interviewed with a legal recruiter for a paralegal position. I don't ordinarily deal with recruiters, but I thought this one would be reputable because it is associated with a local bar association. She called me in the morning and I came in that afternoon. I didn't think my interview went well, but the headhunter said she would forward my resume to her client. She said she would call me later that afternoon or no later than the next afternoon. She thanked me for coming in quickly. The recruiter never called me. She advertised the position two more times; a month later and two months later after the second time. Not only did I not hear from that recruiter, she lied to me about calling me. Continued, below.... |

Continued from above... If it will make you feel any better, Donna and Peggy, based on my experience, so many Denver employers have been acting the way you have described for years. It's very frustrating to find work in Denver. |

It has always been the "code of the travel industry(what i was told anyway) that whomever you contacted would get in touch with you whether or not a position was available. I've looked at other fields (marketing, advertising) and the ones that have called me can't get over the fact that I was in travel; therefore, either feel I'm over qualified or not qualified at all ! I'm beginning to believe that HR people have no earthly idea on what they want/who they want. |

In fairness, I think companies really are bombed with resumes. So many people are looking for jobs. People can find more openings because more information is available. Some occupations are glutted with candidates. Some companies answer responses to ads and/or unsolicited resumes, but must do not because they are busy. While responses are nice, you really can't fault companies anymore if your resumes aren't answered. As I wrote, above, however, companies who don't followup after in-office, in-person interviews are simply rude. You should be glad you didn't hear from them because it's likely they would treat you rudely if you had taken a job with them. |

What is so scary to me is the fact that I am in Social Service, correct that, was in Social Services as a caseworker in Georgia and when we moved I thought that it would be the same process here. In Georgia, if you want to be a caseworker, the jobs were a dime a dozen and they would beg people to work for them because of the turnover of these jobs. Here, I have interviewed with 4 counties and been rejected by all only to see the jobs reposted over and over due to the turnover here also, I think. I am wondering if it has to do with being out of state. I have saw on several occasions that Colorado is ........ a little different...... when it comes to "outsiders". I have the qualifications and the education. Is it true that Colorado has a bit of discrimination. I don't fall into the Democratic ideal.....and never will! |

You may have a point. My wife was an experienced law librarian out of state. She needed a year to find a job in a lesser position. In the meantime, a major downtown firm interviewed her on three separate occasions. During one occasion that firm gave her a big runaround and treated her badly. Although I've gathered that law librarians can be a catty bunch - my wife excepted, of course - that's Denver for you. Downtown law firms are somewhat snobby, however. |

This isn't about Denver, BUT, I called a place myself where I left a resume'
What's with people today ? I haven't had to look for work for over 20 years, and this is the kind of receptions I'm getting.

Get used to it. The job-hunting paradigm has changed even in the last nine years - the last time I was looking for work. Good luck with your job search. You'll need it. Everyone does. |
