The best neighborhoods in Detroit? The ones outside of Michigan. Otherwise, Bloomfield Hills, Southfield, Pontiac. Best to call a realtor. OR SperlingsBestPlaces. |

For families: Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Grosse Pointe (all of these have excellent school districts and lots of community activities for kids in sports and the arts, plus beautiful parks). Also Novi/Northville and Rochester are also terrific. For Singles: Royal Oak is best. Thriving, hip downtown area with nightlife. |

It depends on what is your income. Living in Wayne County, i.e. "the city of Detroit", is pretty much poor neighborhoods with high crime rates. Avoid that if you can. Oakland County just north of Wayne County has the wealthier cities and those are obviously the nicest. But they are expensive. There are some poor neighborhoods like Pontiac and Hazel Park here as well. Macomb County is more affordable, more middle class. The rule is pretty much the further north and west you go from downtown Detroit, the better the cities are. |
