Moving to Federal Way - how did you get here?

Where did you come from? How did you move here? What would you do different now?

I moved here in 1978 from Bremerton after a death in our family. I was then 13 years old. Back then in the early 80's life in Federal Way was GREAT! No worries about being stabbed or mugged in the middle of the night walking our streets.
You could go to school and feel safe, you didn't think twice about it. Your friends were really that, friends for life not enemies in disquise as I see nowadays.
Our kids have so many pressures and worries that we never even dreamed of.
What happened to the safe kegger on the weekends with a bonfire and all the laughter? Now its crack, meth, and much worse and our kids don't know what feeling safe and truly being happy really means. It is sad!!!!
I would different; I would not have stayed here as long as I have. I would have moved to a smaller, friendlier environment so that my children would know that violence, fear and disruption is not the daily way.
We use to walk all over Federal Way trick or treating and now you don't let your kids out of site and if you do, well you take the risk of maybe never seeing them again or bad things happening to them.
We do live in a neighborhood where we are pretty close to our neighbors and kids and yet there was a murder just a month ago right around the corner. You can't escape it any longer and if the City of Federal Way continues to allow building on the last little bits of grassy areas in Federal Way it will just continue to get worse.
When I moved here late 70's early 80's there were NO apartments and the crime rate was so very low. Apartments began to spring up and so has the crime rate and it hasn't looked back.
There really are some good people left in the world, people that care about their families, safety, happiness and fun yet the shadowing of our crime in the streets has really taken over a once beautiful, peaceful and happy place; Federal Way!
