It is sad that here in Flint everyone has questions and there are no answers. With unemployment at 10% why should I be suprised. I have been looking for a Flint Fourm for awhile.I am older and looking for work as well. I have not been back to career Center for a while. I used to practicly live there and still could not find jobs except on my own. Do you know who is in charge of 50 and older at Career Center? The only offered jobs for 25 hours or less that don't make the payments unless you have another income. Jennifer Granhom spends her time going to other countries instead of helping us here. |

I grew up in Flint/Grand Blanc. I am now 50. Left Flint for another state back in 1981. Once the car shops started closing down jobs, the jobs dwindled. When they were on strike I couldn't even get a job at McDonalds or a bar. Unless you get a retail job, or luck upon something, or open your own shop, your opportunities in Flint and any surrounding area are slim. That's why you see nice houses in Grand Blanc - because at one time there was a job market, and now there isn't. At least the houses are cheaper to buy - if you get a job to buy one. |

GIRL, get in your car and leave!! If you're in Flint because you have to take care of your parents until they die, then give them a choice - their either relocate with you or they go into assisted living. Even if your parents are 80 or 85, they could live another ten years, and what will you get out of it (misery). There's nothing good in Flint (unless it's a cheap house, that isn't safe). The weather even sucks nine months out of the year. The only thing I liked was coming back to Grand Blanc in the summer, and feeling the cool air and the soft green grass. I miss Michigan summers. Why don't you go to Tennessee, Chattanooga, or go to the Atlanta area - but anyplace but Flint. |
