toodiminamerica in Scottsdale, Arizona said: There are approximately 50 million people in the United States with some kind of criminal record (misd. or felony) That is a lot of people, and that number is going to go up. Law enforcement and prosecutors employ techniques that widen the net to catch as many people as they can. They also levy as many charges as possible, so that convictions stick! Approximately 80 people have been exhonorated and released from death row- via DNA. The american legal system is not perfect. Can you imagine how many lesser crimes might be inaccurate- based mostly on hearsay. Many lesser crimes are based, in large part, on hearsay. So should it be that these continual burdens should be endured for a lifetime?? That is unjust. So as citizens of this country, why don't you write your senators and government officials- let them know how public hysteria and the governments apathy is creating a very real problem- that will just get worse over time.

Has anyone thought that maybe the consequences of illegal actions will include disqualifying for jobs and housing? I mean maybe just maybe if people didn't committ the crimes they wouldn't have these problems........JUst saying

thefiance in Euless, Texas said: my fiance has been off parole for almost two years out of prison for 7 years. his crime was robbery when he was in his late teens. He will graduate from college this spring with dgree in electronics engineering. we live in the DFW area and he is strugging to find any job right now, but really wants to find one in his education field when he graduates. What can he/we do where do we look? It is becoming overwhelming.

If he has really changed, he should write an additonal cover letter about his felony. He should also get a referral or reference in writing from his parole agent, probation officer, pastor, teachers etc.
Everyone deserves a second chance and it sounds like he is working his butt off to change his life.
Good luck!

help for son in Brownwood, Texas

My son just turned 21 and will be released in August from a two year sentence in a TDCJ facility. His offenses were not drug related but they were because of drugs. I am very concerned about his future with two felonies on his record. He is very smart and young so I know he can succeed if given the chance. My husband (his step-father) is a Methodist minister and my son is a Christian with a big heart, just made some bad decisions. Can anyone give me info resources for jobs, housing and in D/FW, Austin, or Houston. He is open to locations.

Hello All
I just wanted to ask does anyone here know of any companies that will work with someone who doesn't have a felony yet but has an arrest for a criminal act.I worked for a company and i stole some equiptment and i know i shouldn't have but i wasn't thinking when i did these stupid acts.I work in the IT field as a Cisco Engineer and i have a ton of experience but i just can't seem to get someone to give me a chance. And to top it off i just went to court today and my lawyer told me that they are trying to give me 14yrs in prison, he says that he can get it reduced to probation seeing that this is my first time ever getting in trouble but i feel so terrible for my family. I've done this and i've went from making decent money to making nothing, he told me that it would be better for me if i could come into court on the day of the actual trial and show that i could pay restitution but if you can't work you can't pay anything.Sorry to get off the subject but i just feel like i have let my family down with my stupid decision and i don't know really what to do.Thank you for any help or advice that you may be able to give and have a great day

My Fiance is getting released from Beaumont Tx Correctional Institution on the 23rd of this month. He is to do 5mth in the Hutchinson Half way house as was told that he may have a chance to be released once he's found employment . My question is does anyone know how helpful these halfway houses are with helping them find employment and does anyone have any suggestions or lead in which i can give him so that he can start his own search in addition to what ever help the halfway house may give him. He doesn't have a whole lot of work experience he worked briefly @ a car wash detailing, Walmart stoker and nursing home housekeeping. Any assistance will be Greatly appreciated. God Bless

Everyone has a problem with the same solution RECOVERY. Did you know that you are a community of people. There are business expos in dallas texas as well as in other communities. That look for people who can supply one part to what they are doing and you can start a small business to produce something as simple as a bolt to hold together a air conditioned part. It is time to be proactive. What trade did you learn before or doing your stay. If you didn't what talent lies within you. I am a firm believer in another chance, I have never been to prison or committed an act that I got caught and charged. I have a heart for people who need another chance, because I messed up my first chance and my second chance. Recovery means recover your life, if housing is not available lets get together and buy land and build houses that are available, that is a whole new line of jobs there. Carpentry, electricians, brick mason, plumbing, landscaping, etc. People please believe that the way to have a community is to build one and you become the COMMUNITY INVESTOR in the community you build. Take everything this world has to offer an build it into your own community not seperate but as a part of a place of acceptance and do it better. This is my vision and it works anywhere in the world. I just need people who are willing to work at it. FAITH BASED AND COMMUNITY INITIATIVES WAS BEGAN BY PRESIDENT BUSH AND THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION HAS ANOTHER NAME FOR IT BUT IT IS THE PRISONER REENTRY PART OF THE GOVERNMENT FUNDING THAT IS GOING TOWARD PROJECT RIO, AND OTHER ORGANIZATIONS. I AM NOT DOWNING ANY AGENCY THAT IS TRYING, BUT PROJECT RIO IS NOT WORKING HERE. THEY ONLY PUT NAMES ON THE PAPER TO SHOW ACTIVITY COLLECT THE MONEY TO KEEP A JOB AND THE FELONS ARE STILLING LOOKING FOR JOBS. LETS GET TOGETHER AND MAKE THE MONEY WORK FOR WHAT IT IS INTENDED. PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT THIS EFFORT BY emailing me at watkins177@aol.com I am nothing anymore special than anyone.

You need to apply anyway...I've never heard of them going back 30yrs....10yrs most cases but maybe for schools it is 30yrs. Also, apply with a company that has residential plumbing as their main customer base NOT commercial. Apply everywhere even if they do background checks. The key thing on your side will be honesty. I got hired on at a company that had "NO FELONIES" posted in the ad and I still got hired because I was honest & a perfect match for what they needed.

My Husband is a felon. His conviction was over 20 years ago when he was a teen,(for aggravated robbery)there is a long story behind all of this mess I have seen the court documents myself. Still when he goes looking for a job and fills out the background the replies are always no. He has never done anything wrong since this occurrence. He is a wonderful man we have 5 children between us 2 he pays child support on. He is honest and hardworking and it just breaks my heart everytime I see his face when he is refused a job that if he didnt have a background he would get on the spot he just wants so much better and more for our kids.He currently has worked in customer service/security/bouncer for 17 years and it just is not a descent paying job for the size of our family. I just want for him to see all things are possible with God on his side. He is a honest, smart, hardworking, articulate man that just deserves a chance, I am so lucky to have him in my life.

Check out Ignite with Stream Energy. Maybe it's time for you to start your own business and work for yourself.

Regardless of your social or economic status and regardless of your education or finanical status......THIS CAN WORK FOR YOU!!! There are plenty of people from all walks of life in this business. Don't let your past convictions stop you from thinking it can't work for you because it can!!!

The company was started in 2005 in TX and it has become the #1 deregulated energy supplier in each state it services. Currently, the service is only available in TX, GA, PA & MD. They are looking to provide service in other deregulated states soon. Last year the company made over 902 million dollars in mainly two states: TX & GA.

If you currently do not live in TX, GA, PA or MD, but you know people are who live in those states you can still make money. We help people save money on their energy bill and in turn we make money every time people pay their energy bill. Electricity is a life essential service everyone already use and will continue to use. You can get paid month-after-month every time someone pays their energy bill.

Go to fcoffee.igniteinc.biz for more information.

I am currently a senior Business Administration major with a grade point average of 3.62. I will be graduating on May 9. Have I done all of this for nothing. Will any companies hire me?

I think you should not put all of your eggs into the same basket. Meaning that you have a 50 50 chance to get hired by other people. You should think about starting up your own business

Legal Help in Saint Louis, Missouri

For everyone who has a misdemeanor in texas that you do not want disclosed there is a legal way to not have the information show up when you apply for a job. It has to be 2 years after the closing of the case including a probationary period. You can file a non disclosure with an attorney or go to tarrant county law library to get the forms yourself. The cost with an attorney i have found to be at least 800 and will not have to fill out or do anything on your own or file yourself which costs 246 but have to file everything yourself. If you have a felony it is a 5 year waiting period and 177 to do it yourself or call an attorney to see how much they charge. You will have to have completed probation successfully for an attorney to agree to do it or do it yourself and its probably up to the judge. Hope it helps!!

I am 3 years clean and sober this month thanks to Father God. I know I could not of done it without him. I am from Houston Texas and just moved to Ft Worth Tx because I just got married for the 1st time in my life. I am more happier now than I have ever been but I am lacking one thing in my life and that is a job! Please if anyone knows who will hire me and give me a chance to prove my worthiness I would truly appreciate it from the bottom of my heart. I went through a very intense and extensive rehabilitation and by God's grace and mercy it worked. I am now going to college online with a University for Information Technology earning an associates degree. Now I do realize that once I get my degree that nobody will hire me so I have already planned to get a loan from state farm bank because I am in good standing with them on a big loan I took out about 3 years ago so I have decided to open my own business once the degree is earned. Please help me to find a job in the fort worth area. Anyone's help would be appreciated.

I was charged with Injury to A Child when I was 20 years old after I got in a fight with a 16 year old. I also have a lengthy misdemeanor record for pot charges and the like.

My probation was revoked for not being able to pay fines (due to inability to find a job with that ugly charge). I just got out last week. I live in a sober house called Sober by Grace on Lancaster in Fort Worth.

I consider myself a completely different person now. I feel disgusted with my past and for cutting myself short. I am 23 years old now and I have a daughter who I would like to be a supporting father for.

I have a bus pass so I can go anywhere in Fort Worth that the bus goes. I have been spending 8 hours a day looking for work since I got out. A few interviews have not lead to a job after my background came up. I feel like giving up but I won't. If I don't have a job VERY soon I will be on the streets. I have no family or friends to take care of me. I am begging for minimum wage work.

I Have already tried Labor Ready (bus doesn't get there early enough) Goodwill Day labor everyday they tell me no work is available... UPS, haven't heard from them... Denied @ taco bell and many others for background check. I've probably done 60 applications since last week.

My Resume

PLEASE if anyone has any advice please text me 940/465/3248 or email me.

Has anyone ever ran their own background check and found that the felony that they were charged with, did not come up? I have recently had this happen. I was charged almost a year ago. I applied at a temp service that said they run background checks and nothing came up when I applied with them. Or maybe they didn't run it. Who knows. But I just ran my own with Beenverified and it didn't show up. What's my chances of getting a state license? You can't hold a State license such as an insurance license if you have a felony. Just wondering why it didn't come up and they chance it won't come up if I go for my license as a life insurance agent.

you wish they go back to dealing drugs ? thats a terrible thing to say & what if it wasn't drugs ? You know we are only humans, we make mistakes, these people have paid their debt now they are trying to do better. Shame on you.And to those here that are trying to make something of them selfs..God bless you.

Maybe they should go back to robbing and stealing to so they can break into your house in the middle of the night while your sleeping and steal your valuables that you worked so hard for to try to find something to sell so they can survive. Maybe you'll both surprise each other and kill each other too. Wake up people if you don't allow felons an opportunity to redeem or rehabilitate themselves thats exactly what they'll do resort back to crime and it helps no one !

THIS IS IN REPLY TO: Grandmom in Fort Worth in Dallas, Texas said: " HappilyEmployed in Salt Lake City, Utah said.........................REALLY???????? Get your busted A**off here if all you're going to do is degrade people.
Half of the celebrities in the news today have been convicted of MULTIPLE felonies and not one of them have had trouble finding "jobs".
The thing is, on here, where the real world resides, most of us are asking to be given the opportunity to prove that we can be role models for our FAMILIES, not the public. It's very difficult going through the court system and paying for mistakes only to be told over & over again that "Sorry, we don't hire felons". Hell, most jobs have "NO FELONIES" listed in their ads so we are discouraged from even applying.

For those of you struggling to find a job, don't give up. It will work out. I have 2 work from home jobs that are real jobs and I have an interview for a 3rd one next week. I'm making enough to pay my way without any assistance and hopefully this 3rd job will provide a little extra for the Holidays so I can give gifts to the ones who continue to stick by me - no matter what :)

well I finally found a job/career that did not check my background. I am a woman and got a job at a machine shop as a machine operator. It's not the best pay at first but they give raises frequently which is fair. Now since I am in college taking IT Information Technology I am going to lean my degree towards computer science engineering which is as lot of money in a career field. The job told me that with that type of degree in that field I will become more of an asset for that company than I am now. I say more than now because my production level is extremely high because i am very very fast and am able to produce a lot more than people that have been there for years. So everyone out there that has felonies...do not give up, there are still opportunities.

They look for longetivity, (how long you have been working w/the same company) and "yes" how long ago this did happen. If you have had a clean record since, initially it is up to the employer but the temp. agancies weed out the possible to hire based on qualifications/experience, etc.

How do you find out about temp services that hire people with felons. My husband has a bad bkgrd and we are having problems with finding him a job and even a place to live. We have 2 kids and nobody will rent to us because of his bkgrd. Can anyone help us!?!?

michelle in Miami, Florida said: I am in the same boat when reading many of these comments - due to allowing myself to be in an abusive relationship, not knowing how to deal with the pain(which was the fact that I just should have left!), and all, I allowed myself to get drunk, high, and had a total blackout, when I woke up in jail. They charged me originally with armed robbery, but changed it to common-law robbery, because I didn't carry a weapon. This was all in North Carolina Well, that has been 14 years ago. I have had some success in jobs, but here in Miami, Florida, no one will give me a 2nd chance, and my current husband(who is not abusive, thank God!) is also having difficulties due to a 20 yr misdemeanor/felony conviction. I trust God, but I am also very discouraged. Yes, I should have never gotten myself in the position I did 14 years ago, but at the same time, what's the point of going on and keeping on doing the right thing when most hang a 'life sentence' on you no matter what you try to do? I keep praying, but get no answers. If it weren't for the fact that I don't want to go back to a correctional facility again, I'd be about ready to almost say, 'the hell with doing the right thing anymore'. I have inquired about getting my record expunged or whatever you're supposed to do, but according to North Carolina, they don't give that chance to people with felonies - even 1-time felonies. Any suggestions? I am at the end.

I had a record in calif. for armed robbery. I moved to ky, and after I served out of C.Y.A at the age of 25. No work exsperience I got a job at a big chain, convience store/gas station and within a yr. I made store manager. I lied on my application but they never said anything. So I don't know if they did a nationwide criminal backround. I also stated college but I relapsed.I just got again. I have drug convicltions now 4yrs old and I want to go back to college. But what careers will hire a felon? and maybe u could move?
