I worked at Gerald R Ford Job Corps for a year and a half as their IT guy. I setup a classroom with thin-clients, and published apps on their Citrix servers in Austin, TX for all the classes. I reimaged all the PCs, and replaced a bunch of them. I created a hidden partition on each PC's hdd to place an image of C: drive once the PC was at the user's desk and working properly as they needed them. The images are Ghost images. The Center Director is Jeff Jablonski. He hired me as Computer Systems Analyst. Since each Job Corps is privately run (Dept of Labor takes bids for each Center's operation), Gerald R Ford Job Corps is run by MinAct, Inc. At least until they are found to not perform well enough, and bidding to other companies pushes them out. |

Hello Dlkamps thank you for your response. How was the atosmophere working there. did everyone treat each other like adults? How was management with their employees? Any information will be useful. |

There is a level of corruption in the ranks, as in most businesses... There are some department heads that absolutely should not be in any position of authority. The Center Director seems to do his level best to manage the place. HR Director is his wife. They both interact very well with students and most staff. I saw some people loose their jobs that maybe shouldn't have, but I wasn't privy to both sides of issues, so I don't know. There were male staff members having sex with female students, and other staff knew first hand about it, but don't do anything about it. Some of the students are over 18 and it can be considered consensual, but on the job site? Wow! The department head of the department that initial students are in to determine aptitude and direction, I forget the department name, was a black woman that never be in any position of leadership. She's racist and operates like a dictator. She ruins whatever positives staff bring to department with her management style. She has a history, too, but I'm not going to get into defamation. I loved working there, and bonded real well with many, many students. It was an experience I'll hold dear my whole life, because I think that I made a difference in the lives of several of the students. |

Call up there and speak to Human Resources about jobs. Most jobs are not posted on their web site until employees have a chance to apply. Get to know someone there who can vouch for you and push your resume to the right person. |

Thank you so much for everyone who has replied and gave me insight. 1102vita, I have contacted HR director and Mr. Dillman. I applied for a position about a year and a half ago and was offered the job but turned it down due to the salary they proposed. I realized I made a mistake and have done everything in my power to make up for it. I have written letters, emails to Mr. Jablonski applied for multiple position only to be turned away because I turned down the first opportunity. Not quite sure why they would hold a grudge for so long even after admitting my mistake. I am really impressed with their programs and what they do for at risk youth, I have worked with youth for the past 11 years. I have accepted the fact they are not willing to give me a second chance, but willing to give it one more try. I see they have a position available that I might apply for. I currently am working for the State but my passion is with at risk youth hands on. I thank everyone again for their advice and direction. |
