I am an experienced senior technical writer and quality professional specializing in ISO-9001/2000 registration and continuous improvement initiatives (documentation and implementation specialist). I am an older worker who feels possibly that my age is working against me. I am experienced in a variety of fields in both disciplines and would like a chance to help a small or mid-sized company achieve its quality goals and improve bottom line dramatically. I have a degree in English/Technical Communications from UW-Madison and would like to know if there are any tech recruiting agencies in the area who aren't completely unscrupulous and totally full of dog doo-doo. Would appreciate your help (whoever you may be!). TANX!!

The job market in Madison is tough. I too am an older worker looking for a new position for almost a year. Many job interviews but no offers. I am an HR professional with many years of practice interviewing so I think that I am ok in that department.
Most temporary agencies in Madison are awful. From the ones I have worked with I'd say that Drake is the worse, followed by Kelly, Areotek, Adecco. QTI is ok but you can't trust them to give you the straight facts on any openings.
Good Luck

Hi Lon,

Please send me an email, dennisoboyle over at Yahoo. It'll be good to catch up with you my friend... we worked together at Cooper Power Systems and even played a little basketball down at the local gym in those days.

Now I'm at General Electric Medical Systems -- GE Healthcare -- in Waukesha and am coming across documents such as 2296106_OMS that bear your name as one of the authors.

Thanks Lon, take care.

a little side note to temp agency, some temp agency require you to have 100 words per minute, and then there are some temp agency who just want your information for the fun of it. most of them are really great liars.

Hello Russell ~ I realize your posting was long ago but it was just brought to our attention. I would really like to chat with you about your experience as we try very hard to make sure that every applicant and employer has a very positive experience when dealing with Drake & Company. Your comment about your experience sounds as though we have fallen short of our goal.

Please call me at Drake & Company (system will not allow me to insert my phone number) as I would value your opinion on any possible changes we can make.

Thank you Russell ~ Kelly

Base on my experience, I have gone to Kelly Services, QTI, and QPS in Madison, WI. They just want your information, they will not give you a job. For Kelly Services, everytime a new job opens, I call in right away, they tell me, "the job is no longer available," even though the job was just posted yesterday, or a couple hours release to the public. This is like every time, they tell me the same thing over and over again. And it doesn't make sense, because if they have an open position, and it's advertise recently, why tell me that it's no longer available? I'm sure they have tons of excuses to back this one up. Kelly Services, QTI and QPS, all of them, as soon as you walk into the door, before anything else, they will make you fill out unnecessary forms right away, copy your Social Security Card and drivers license. They haven't even given you an offer yet, and still they require all your personal information, they come up with a ton of lame excuses as to why they need all that from you. If you don't give out your information to them, they will deny you a job which they might not even have. I have been to all of them, Kelly Services, QTI, and QPS, and base on my experience, I recommend, not going to them, they are not helpful and will only copy your information down and use it against you. So yes, I would agree, with what Russell has said above, the temp agency here in Madison are unfair and not very good. They work for their clients, the big companies out there, they don't work for you, so yeah they are going to screen you out anyway they can. For example, age, physical features, education, etc, pretty much anything and everything. Some of you might have a different experience than I did, but if you do happen to get a job from them, be ready for the job. Most jobs advertise from a temp agency are difficult jobs to keep anyways, that's why, they are from a temp agency. And because they are temp jobs, you can't sue the company.

Some of these agencys are license, and if you think, you were discriminated against, you can sue these agency. Just write to the state. They know they aren't suppose to discriminate against you, but they do it all the time by having you fill out those unncessary forms.

I agree that temporary agencies are a scam. But they also do things like release your information to other companies without your permission. I know it's more than a coincidence that both times I've contacted Kelly Services and Drake and Company for jobs - I get calls from collection companies the same day. I have been out of work for a while with no health insurance - how is one supposed to pay all the bills without working??? These companies are really evil and they get away with it because they are big and have corporate lawyers!!!! I can hardly pay for rent and pay for groceries being unemployed, and yes I have overdue bills. They shouldn't have the right to share your information!!!! I can see if I was a felon or had hurt someone. It's just pathetic the way things are done in this country - money for those who have too much already, and no rights for the people who are scrambling to make it. It's a perversion of justice what they do - and I bet they get money for spreading our personal information around too some kind of commission!
