The North Shore - Mandeville, Covington, Slidell - is probably the safest, and Slidell probably has the least congestion of the three. Of course, there’s not much to do in Slidell, but it’s just a short ride from New Orleans.

The Bywater area of New Orleans has gotten fairly preppie/arts-y after Katrina.

I think Harahan is nice too, and Metairie is alright.
