I was working as a manager in retail in the city of Hampton and just wanted to live some ways away from work.
To this day, I still believe you get more house for the money in Newport News and you have less issues of flooding during the rainy season. I live in a quiet neighborhood in the North district leading to historic Williamsburg, Virginia. I love the wide streets and old neighborhoods here and am impressed with the choice of recent retail/residential mixed used communities.
You can get to almost anything by jumping on I64. When that backs up with tourist traffic try Rt 17, Warwick Bl, or Jefferson Bl.
Visit the city's website as well.
