What are the best neigborhoods in Portland?

Where is the good life? For families? Singles?

Bridlemile! It's close to everything, private and has great schools and no traffic.

I'm a single woman moving to Portland in July for a new start, new job. I am looking for a studio or 1BR apt that is safe, and preferably in an older building or artsy atmosphere. I'm also interested in living downtown. What advice can you give me?

Jennifer, check out "the Pearl". It is a district in northwest Portland. Has lots of lofts, sidewalk cafes, very artsy, trendy kind of location.
