Kim - DO NOT advertise youself on websites. DO NOT give anyone your last name, your resume, your address, your phone number, your cell phone number. Keep yourself safe. The safest way to get a job is to go to stores, like Wal-Mart, a girl's clothing store, and ask if you can fill out an application. Women who have advertised on craigslist (like massage therapists) have been set up and murdered. Anybody who contacts you on one of these websites is looking to take advantage of your youth and nieveness. |

You are wrong to shill your little enterprise on these free fora to the detriment of Indeed's paid sponsers. You are wrong to try to take advantage of a high school kid who doesn't need a resume to get a summer job. |

You could try talking to the manager, but you probably would have to fill out an application first. The manager or assistant manager will call you if he/she is interested in interviewing you. Some places have a computerized "Career Center." You would fill out the app online instead of hand-printing it as we did in the old days. Good luck with your job search. Stay safe. |

Hi Kim, I agree with Mary and the others that you need to be very careful online. For Wal-Mart I believe you fill out an application at a computer that is set up somewhere in the store. However, I used to work at Sears and I know they are pretty much always hiring. They also have a computer set up where you apply. Sears is very family friendly and I think it would be good first job. They also work with your schedule if you plan on continuing your education. They do an interview right when you are done with the application, which is nice.

Sears is a good choice. I think they're hiring everyone at about ten hours a week now. As for a mall job - go to the mall security desk - and ask for a list of the stores hiring. The guy will know what you're talking about and hand you a printed sheet. At 17, whatever work you do - should be fun. Living in San Diego, you would be able to get a job. P.S. Go to Wal-Mart and buy a whistle, put it on a string and attach it to your purse. If a man ever grabs you and tries to drag you into his car - blow your whistle - LOUD. |
