Avoid Waltham Public Schools. This is a terrible system. The English Department imports and assembles theater productions on a semicommercial basis at the expense of students. Classes are assembled with utter carelessness -- your shy little one may be facing a bully with a parole officer. Teachers, especially the experienced, are hustled in the front door and out the back, so the administrators can tell the School Board and DOE "We tried." They then assign the cheapest paraprofessional they can find, sometimes uncertified, often waiting in the wings for the moment to arrive.
The administrators have played these games for a long, lng time. The Superintendent is new, gets his $150K/yr, and not about to rock any boats. The School Committee and Mayor seem oblivious to the complaints and high turnover.
Net result? Neglected classes, neglected children, conned certification testing, and a fair chance your child will be bullied. Non-English-Speaking ethnic groups have a particular problem: your child may end up in a class for retarded children, to save the cost of supplying English teachers.
Needless to say it's no place for a teacher, and the exact wrong place for a budding administrator.
