Moving to San Francisco - how did you get here?

Where did you come from? How did you move here? What would you do different now?

I came from San Diego for a job with a major architecture firm in San Francisco. I got to do some great work using BIM/Revit to perform the production for large scale commercial projects, I was sitting on top of the world, that is until the bottom fell out and 1/2 our projects got put on hold or cancelled, then I got laid off. 4 months later no job. If I had to do it all over again, I would have stuck with my Video game 3D environment designer/3D artist job I had in Carlsbad Ca. I had steady wall to wall job doing basically the same thing I do in architecture. basically, I should have stayed in San Diego at Rockstar Games instead of "going for it" or as one Korean War general said - "retreat hell, I am just attacking in the other direction"
