(JC) Plant Project Engineer Location: Jacksonville, FL Job description: The Plant Project Engineer will manage capital projects and provide hands-on chemical, mechanical and/or electrical design expertise for projects in a specialty chemicals manufacturing plant . This position generates a broad range of challenges that require routine interaction with other work groups to ensure maximum value is derived from capital investments. This position is responsible for all aspects of project design and management from conceptual scope development to project start-up. This position could be the Project Manager for a project team installing projects up to $2,000,000. Further, this position provides technical consultation, formal and informal training, and development of documentation, standards, and procedures in relation to the role. Key Responsibilities:
  • Interacting with other plant personnel to gather critical design information
  • Developing and pricing conceptual solution designs
  • Equipment and Instrument selection and sizing
  • Development of project justification, cost estimate and schedule
  • Managing contractors & field installation
  • Design and management for projects in the range of $25,000 to $2,000,000
Job Requirements: Candidates must have excellent leadership, ethics, teamwork, and communication skills with a results oriented commitment. The ability to manage multiple and changing priorities is essential. This position requires negotiating skills and the ability to resolve conflict across departmental lines to achieve objectives. Other specific qualifications include:
  • BS or MS Degree in Chemical (preferred), Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • At least 10 years of past experience in a Project engineering role in an operating chemical plant (pulp and paper mill or refinery)
  • Sound basis in design of chemical process systems, which include:
    • Design of fluid flow systems (tanks, pumps, piping)
    • Working knowledge of process instrumentation and control (of fluid flow systems)
    • Working knowledge of mechanical, structural and civil support systems
  • Process design expertise (equipment sizing, heat loads, piping design, fluid flow, etc)
    • Ability to participate in and lead a design team
  • Minimum of five years of plant project and/or construction management experience; sound understanding of field construction requirements; experience with project estimating, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Experience reviewing existing chemical processes, writing reports, researching and specifying equipment, developing cost estimates and developing capital project requests.
  • Must be able to manage project scope, cost and schedule; contracts; contractors; and construction activities.
  • Working knowledge of project engineering tools such as spreadsheets, vendor sizing tools, Microsoft Office applications a must (Excel, Word, Power point, Project, AutoCAD)
  • Experience with SAP(or similar) management software
  • Experience with managing process and construction safety requirements
  • Excellent communicator (peer and management) (verbal and written skills)
