(JC) Project Engineer Location: Detroit, MI Job description: Hands-on Project Engineer responsible for designing, developing, testing, or supervising the installation of equipment, components, or systems including all aspects of project design, management, construction and start-up in an Adhesives and Sealants Manufacturing Facility. Key processes in this facility include solids conveying, drying, mixing, compounding, extruding, laminating, winding, slitting, chemical reactions, and packaging. Specific responsibilities include:
  • Manages the Preventative Maintenance program including providing direction for the maintenance of all buildings, equipment, electrical systems, plumbing systems, alarm systems, landscaping and parking areas
  • Prepare project timelines and budgets for construction, equipment set-up, preventative and routine maintenance and contracted maintenance
  • Direct and coordinate construction, installation, maintenance support, documentation and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications and codes
  • Inspect completed installations and observe operations to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with operational and safety standards
  • Coordinate installation of electrical services for constructions projects
  • Troubleshoot and direct the repair for electrical systems including main power
  • Working closely with Process Engineering and Operations to develop project scopes and forecasts
  • Developing project feasibility, justification, and capital appropriation requests
  • Responsible for planning, scheduling, conducting and coordinating the technical aspects of projects
  • Accountable for the successful completion of projects on time and within budget
  • Interacting with vendors, machine shops, equipment suppliers and others
  • Working closely with operations on programming, procedures, training, commissioning, start-up, troubleshooting and optimizing new projects
Also responsible for:
  • Working with new product launch teams to ensure the timely, successful commercialization of new products
  • Providing reliability engineering support to maintenance
  • Leading site infrastructure improvement projects
  • Maintaining and reporting key project metrics
  • Providing visible leadership and supporting site safety improvement activities
Job Requirements:
  • BS, Mechanical Engineering w/ a strong electrical background, or; BS Electrical Engineering w/ extensive experience in Project Management; Master Electrician Certification would be beneficial
  • 5-10 years experience in Capital Project Management
  • Knowledge in 480V electrical and some instrumentation/controls is preferred
  • Highly motivated self starter with a high energy level and track record of success
  • Ability to build, lead and participate on teams - strong facilitation and TQL skills
  • Excellent people and communications skills
  • Process design and problem solving skills and experience utilizing computer tools
  • Practical background in statistical techniques as well as process measurement and improvement techniques
  • Thorough knowledge of electrical codes
  • Goal oriented with strong organizational skills
