Support engineering with the selection of materials heat treatments and finishes that meet the structural, weight, cost, corrosion, microbial susceptibility, environmental, military and other defined requirements by using materials engineering experience and published trade information.
Work with manufacturing and quality to improve procedures for receiving and handling materials to ensure product quality.
Establish a Non-destructive Inspection Requirements Review Board (NDIRRB) to develop composite and metallic Non-destructive Inspection (NDI) plan for production and field maintenance. Setup a Non-destructive Evaluation (NDE) group to perform production Non-destructive testing by establishing and conducting a NDE training program.
Support field failure investigations by conducting destructive and non-destructive materials testing and analysis of components and working with outside fracture investigation and material analysis vendors to determine the root cause of failure and determine corrective action.
Support proposal bids by estimating job time and material costs, writing statements of work (SOW), developing work flow, writing job descriptions, and discussing bids with customers.
Mentor junior materials engineers to improve the level of proficiency within the department and help shape their careers.
Must have experience testing on composite materials
Develop and implement Materials and Process (M&P) policies and procedures companywide throughout engineering
Manufacturing quality and field support to improve product quality and lower costs.
