A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.
Do you love to build and manage teams of smart and innovative people? Do you enjoy bridging the worlds between business and IT? Do you hear a problem and run towards it? Do you believe so much in the agile methodology that you apply it to your everyday personal life? Do you see past the “cloud” buzzword to the true incredible potential behind the idea and SaaS offerings? Are you rich in experience, but poor in biases? Then it’s time for us to talk.
Who is Pivotal?
We are a global software and services company. Our people are diverse, distributed and are world-class talents in their fields.
What does Pivotal do?
Pivotal is building a new platform for a new era, setting the standard for Enterprise Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS). The company’s mission is to enable customers to build a new class of applications, leveraging big and fast data, doing all of this with the power of cloud independence.
What does Pivotal IT do?
Pivotal IT is a lean, high-performing organization whose chief goal is to enable all our teams to do what they do best: deliver amazing software and services. We are fast, smart, experienced, agile and we put a priority on getting things done. We work smart and we work together to keep our compatriots connected, our datacenters online, our applications humming and our services running.
What do we need from you?
The Director+ of Business Applications will build and manage a team of exceptional business analysts with skills that can help enable the Pivotal business units by understanding their business requirements, translating those requirements into an optimal application architecture and helping ensure it gets built to specification. You should be fluid, comfortable and highly competent in a heterogeneous application environment. We are SaaS-heavy, but leverage a backend ERP system – you should be comfortable architecting, implementing and integrating both. You likely have experience in a variety of big-stack app providers, but should be just as comfortable with niche application providers. You don’t let your biases and experience change how you objectively look at solutions to a given problem – you understand that we are dealing with new business models and that the “same old answer” is likely not the right answer for the future we are creating. We will work with many teams, communicate with many people, work with vendors, stay within budgets and meet deadlines. We share, communicate and train each other. We do travel as needed, but not all the time.
Qualifications and factors for success:
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
- 10+ years IT experience with various business applications; cross-functional and consulting experience is a plus
- Strong experience working with and integrating SaaS providers
- Solid people management and project management experience

- Strong teamwork building skills along with the ability to work virtually and independently as required
