JOB SUMMARY

Provide daily animal care and husbandry of laboratory animals in a research environment. Performs animal technical procedures and provides animal study support with moderate to little supervision.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides animal husbandry and care for a variety of laboratory animal species in accordance with TMHRI SOP's. Provides fresh feed and water, performs cage changes and animal/procedure room sanitation procedures, recognizes normal environmental room parameters (temperature, humidity, light levels, air flow, etc). Reports abnormal conditions to the Vivarium Manager. Recognizes normal clinical appearance and behavior of animals and repots any concerns to the veterinary staff.

Performs technical procedures with moderate to little veterinary staff supervision including but not limited to animal identification procedures and post-operative monitoring. Follows FDA GLP and GMP requirements if applicable.

Assists with the care and maintenance of in house rodent breeding colonies including but not limited to breeding and weaning animals.

Assists with animal handling and husbandry training procedures (assists with training less experienced staff)

Participates in holiday and weekend duty rotation of animal care and husbandry.

Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

HS diploma 2 to 5 years of animal handling experience.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

2 to 5 years of animal handling experience

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED

LAT preferred

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Knowledge of research animals, laboratory animal science and regulations governing their use

Computer skills

Ability to work well with others

Organizational skills
