This position performs specialized support and regulatory compliance review for Institutional Review Board (IRB), Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee (IACUC), Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), Radiation Safety Committee (RSC) and Research conflict of interest activities. The incumbent works with investigators and staff to complete the compliance review for research involving human subjects, vertebrate animals, biological agents and radioactive materials, as well as research conflict of interest disclosures from institutional investigators. Works with management and staff of The Methodist Hospital Research Institute (TMHRI) to support applicable research proposal and regulatory activities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinates all aspects of human, animal, and biological agent research proposal submission, review, and approval process. Coordinates research protocol compliance review for research funding applications. (EF)
Interacts with institutional investigators, IRB, IACUC, IBC, RSC and Research Conflict of Interest staff to facilitate initial research protocol review, continuing review, and protocol amendment processes. (EF)
Interacts with IRB and TMHRI staff to facilitate comparative review of grants and sponsored agreements with supporting clinical research protocols. (EF)
Performs comparative review of grants and sponsored agreements with supporting IACUC, IBC, and RSC approved research protocols. (EF)
Advises faculty and support staff of compliance status and facilitates protocol amendment by email, memo or verbal discussion. (EF)
Serves as back up grants analyst to ensure pre and post-award funding activities are completed in accordance with sponsor deadlines and institutional demands. (EF)
Participates in IACUC site inspections of institutional animal facilities. (EF)
Recommends changes/enhancements to TMHRI policies and procedures to ensure efficient operations of the office of Research Protection. (EF)
Performs other duties as assigned. (EF)

Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry or other scientific field preferred.
Three to five years of related experience, with specific experience in supporting administrative or laboratory research projects. May substitute equivalent years of experience for preferred educational requirements.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Position requires the exercise of independent judgment related to situations of a sensitive, confidential and scientific nature.
Must have strong verbal and written communication skills in order to read and comprehend scientific research project descriptions and compare the information to research protocol documents.
Must have advanced skills with Microsoft Office software applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Must be able to successfully interact with a varied level of professionals, administrators and support staff.
Normal office environment (90% of the time); research laboratory environment (10% of the time ' site inspections).
