The Medical Director is responsible for developing, revising and monitoring all medical protocols, policies, and procedures. Conducts reviews of physicians and other medical personnel at residential and outpatient facilities. Performs audits of medical records and procedures conducted by Gateway consulting physicians. Assures medical policies and practices are in compliance with licensing and accreditation standards.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities: (The following duties and responsibilities are all essential job functions, as defined by the ADA, except for those that begin with the word "May.")

1. Reviews, creates or amends medical protocols, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with licensing and associated standards and to improve overall program quality and effectiveness. Investigates and resolves deficiencies and develops goals and objectives for improving or expanding overall client medical care and services.

2. Monitors, develops and evaluates medical treatment services and provides medical guidance and expertise to management and other medical professionals managing and providing medical services for clients.

3. May order laboratory and other special diagnostic tests and evaluates data obtained.

4. Develops and maintains cooperative working relationships with center and executive managers, medical professionals.

1. Knowledge of medical standards, practices, policies and procedures necessary as is normally acquired through completion of a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree.

2. Current professional license to practice medicine in the State of Illinois and Board Certification in primary specialty.

3. Current certification and recognition by the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) as a qualified medical practitioner in addictions medicine.

4. Suboxone certified prescriber.

5. Expertise in Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)

6. Minimum five (5) years’ experience with detox protocols.

7. Knowledge of medical standards and best practices as related to substance abuse treatment and typical medical issues related to abuse of legal and illegal chemical substances; and ability to plan and oversee the medical treatment of these conditions, and to evaluate the effectiveness and abilities of other medical professionals treatment; at a level normally acquired through over 7 years progressively more responsible, related experience in the medical field.

8. Ability to treat clients on-site four (4) to six (6) hours per week.
