This Administrative Assistant 1 position is located in the Spencer, IA Workforce Center. NATIONAL CAREER READINESS CERTIFICATE - credential preferred
and applicant must meet the Selective 866: Ability to read, write and speak Spanish fluently . Applications accepted ONLY from candidates who possess this Selective.
This position will be responsible for collecting and reporting on migrant and seasonal farm workers (MSFW) activities and needed statistics, which will be reported to the State Monitor Advocate on a monthly basis. Conduct interviews with limited English speaking participants to determine employability and eligibility for assistance; identify/assess personal barriers/issues to becoming self-sufficient; interpret rules/regulations and explain rights and responsibilities of participants; gather, organize and analyze supporting documents and maintain detailed case notes.
Create and deliver presentations to migrant and seasonal farm workers, farmers, farm labor contractors, employers, agencies, and other interested groups regarding employment opportunities, farm labor safety, cultural diversity issues, labor rights, etc.
Perform case management functions and provide support services, employability plan reviews, and keep case files current in compliance with program policies.
Work with participants to overcome barriers/obstacles to succeed and refer them to work experience, job seeking skills classes, volunteer work, classroom training and other program components/activities; coach participants in the development of goals/objectives to reach self-sufficiency and monitor progress.
Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully in written and spoken form in both English and Spanish fluently. Possess and maintain a working knowledge of the services and programs offered by Iowa Workforce Development and other community resources. Serve as a member of department, agency or institutional committee and provide advice on matters necessary to implement directives and instructions. Assist community in effective use of available Iowa Workforce Development resources and serve as a liaison between employers and local institutions of education.
Hours of work are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday, some required evenings and weekend travel. Travel heaviest from April to October; two or more evenings weekly.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree . Fluency in Spanish is required.
