employment is defined as non-fulltime employment in which employees serve under an excepted or competitive service appointment without a regularly scheduled tour of duty. A position with an intermittent work schedule is sporadic and unpredictable so that a tour of duty cannot be regularly scheduled in advance. The salary listed represents full-time employment and will be pro-rated based on the actual number of hours worked each pay-period.

position. This appointment may be renewed for additional service in accordance with Agency needs. Temporary positions do not offer health or life insurance benefits and may be terminated at any time before the expiration date. The appointment to a temporary position does not confer eligibility for promotion or reassignment to other positions or the ability to be non-competitively converted to permanent employment.
This position is located at the Albany VA Medical Center within the GEC care line and reports directly to the designated care line manager. The position requires application of specialized program knowledge and clerical support skills in providing assistance to program manager, supervisors and interdisciplinary staff serving veteran patients within a number of varied and specialized programs. The work involves such functions as office organization, correspondence and communications, project coordination, maintenance of databases and spreadsheets, and scheduling as well as equipment maintenance and inventory.
Intermittent work schedule, will average about 16 hours per pay period.

To qualify for the Administrative Support Assistant, GS-07, you must meet the following minimum requirement:
You must have one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-6 level. This experience must be close to the work of this job and has given you the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of an Administrative Support Assistant, GS-07. Specialized experience is demonstrated work experience gained independently performing clerical duties in a healthcare setting including maintaining databases, answering telephones and responding to questions/needs that arise, providing information to patients and staff, preparing in final format memoranda, letters, meeting notes, and other documents utilizing software programs such as Microsoft Office; scheduling appointments, coordinating meetings and or scheduling conferences. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year starting and ending dates AND hours worked per week.
You will be rated on the following Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other characteristics (KSAOs) as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position:
The work of this position requires some physical exertion. There is significant work that requires sitting and includes phone and keyboard work. There is structured time away from the desk that involves walking and standing.

Applicants will be ranked based on four quality groups, as follows:
After the vacancy announcement closes, reviewed applications are evaluated against the questionnaire responses and placed in the appropriate quality group. Qualified veterans will be afforded preference by being placed at the top of the appropriate quality group. Qualifying veterans with a service-connected disability of 10% or more will be placed at the top of the best qualified group. The best qualified group is the first to be referred to the hiring facility for further consideration and possible interview. The remaining groups may be referred based on the number of applicants available.
