The Civil Group covers a wide range of engineering functions. We cover pavement repairs and evaluations, review of all non-building capital projects, in-house design for DOA Civil/sitework jobs, reviews of tenant and concessionaire projects, maintenance of DOA Design Standards, updating of utility mapping, property lease concessionaire projects, maintenance of DOA Design Standards, updating of utility mapping, property lease drawings and descriptions, support for Planning, Facility management, and other internal groups. The Senior Airport Engineer position participates in any/or all of those functions, as well as providing backups for the Civil Principal thereby improving efficiency and responsiveness of the group under the current work load.
Performs duties in a leadership role in the Civil Engineering work group. Supervise and participates in the production of Engineering plans and specifications for in house projects. Perform reviews of design work prepared by others. Provide day to day supervision of Engineering and other Technical staff. Engineering licensure is required.

Examples Of Essential Duties:

· Assist in scoping and budgeting development for Task Orders on new projects
· Provide supervision and assistance to Staff to maintain the work flow
· Review plan submittals prepared by On-Call consultants, to verify adherence to scope. Constructability, and compliance with DOA standards and guidelines
· Control expenditures within limitations of project budget
· Review design submittals from airport tenants and concessionaires
· Assist in refinement and updates to DOA Design Standards
· Participate in engineering inspections for other DOA groups, including Maintenance, Properties, Construction Management, and Planning.
· Facilities access for others to historical design and construction documents
· Prepares / performs staff performance reviews

Typical Qualifications:

· Understanding of large commercial airport layout and functions
· Familiarity with FAA Advisory Circulars and regulations
· General understanding of AASHTO criteria and GDOT practices
· Familiarity with parking lot layouts and construction
· Surveying practices and techniques
· Principles and practices of drainage and sewer design
· Experience with rehabilitation of existing Civil infrastructure systems
· Understanding of concrete pavement design, particularly for commercial aircraft
· Water distribution systems
· General practices of construction management and administration
· Knowledge of City of Atlanta Government procurement procedures

· Review and analysis of construction plans
· Use of computers and a variety of software, including word processing, spreadsheets
· Reading and interpreting Civil Construction documents
· Organization and time management
· Reviewing shop drawings and related construction submittals
· Preparing specifications and participating in bid processes
· Engineering design for Civil facilities on the Airport
· Staff supervision
· Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction

Minimum Qualifications Required:
· Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering
· Minimum 20 years of hands on experience in Engineering Design. Specialization in airport and transportation systems is a plus.

Licensing Requirements:
· Valid Georgia Driver’s License
· Registration with the Georgia Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors
