The City of Fort Worth is hiring an Arborist for the Parks and Community Services Department, Planning and Resource Management Division to perform work responsible for the maintenance and care of trees.
The selected candidate will perform essential functions to include participating in the overall care and maintenance of trees; climb and prune trees using assigned equipment and safety devices; plant trees securing them with appropriate materials; transport trees to various sites in an effective manner; remove tree stumps embedded in the ground. Participate in job site cleanup; rake, sweep and shovel debris; load supplies and debris securely onto truck; feed logs into chipper, abiding by all safety procedures. Operate, maintain and clean arborist related equipment and vehicles. Maintain safe work environment; and direct traffic as well as pedestrians safely around job site.
Skills / Requirements
The following education and/or experience are the minimum standards which provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position:
High School Diploma or GED PLUS one (1) year of increasingly responsible experience in the maintenance and care of trees is required. ISA Tree Worker Certification preferred, but not required. Applicants must have the ability to climb and work in trees at excessive heights.
Preference may be given to higher levels of education, experience and certifications as related to the vacancy.
Possession of a current or the ability to obtain a Texas Commercial Drivers License Class B within six (6) months of employment; ability to pass a DOT Physical; and an acceptable driving record are required.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Environmental Conditions:
Outside environment; exposure to varying weather conditions, excessive heights, and high noise levels; possible electrical and mechanical hazards while working in close areas with power equipment; movement on uneven surfaces; contact with grease, oils, fumes, and gases; work with moving objects and vehicles.
Essential and marginal functions require maintaining physical condition necessary for standing or walking for extended periods of time; light to heavy carrying, lifting, pushing, and pulling of objects; repeated bending, kneeling and climbing; manual dexterity required, adequate vision, hearing, and speech; must be able to operate assigned equipment.
