Develop, implement and maintain an injury and illness prevention program and related programs for employees who perform a variety of office and field activities, including investigations of hazardous waste cleanup operations and hazardous materials releases. Perform industrial hygiene surveys, monitor employee exposure to chemical, physical and biological hazards, conduct ergonomic evaluations, conduct accident investigations, write technical industrial hygiene and safety reports, and review site safety plans. Prepare, teach and revise training programs and conduct safety and health training sessions. Perform office inspections of State and Regional Water Board offices.

Necessary Qualifications: The position is located in Sacramento any may require up to 25 percent travel to perform the duties as specified within the State Water Board or assigned Regional Water Quality Control Boards and other locations throughout California. Wearing personal protective equipment and impervious clothing may be required. Ability to work independently. Understanding of industrial hygiene and safety principles, including ability to conduct industrial hygiene surveys and investigations. Awareness of applicable Cal OSHA standards for workplace safety and health. Candidates must meet the educational requirements of the class.

Desirable Qualifications: Experience researching and conducting employee health and safety program audits. Exercise a high degree of initiative, independence, and originality handling multiple priorities and tasks simultaneously while meeting deadlines. Experience and proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet (Excel), and Power Point software. Knowledge of emergency preparedness and emergency management (SEMS and ICS) systems. Meet eligibility requirements for certification in industrial hygiene by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene and/or certification in safety by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals.
