The Army Wounded Warrior Program (AW2) provides a system of advocacy and follow-up to severely injured and ill Soldiers and their families with personal support during their treatment, rehabilitation, and transition back to military service or into the civilian community.

Army Wounded Warrior (AW2) Advocates serve as case managers severely wounded, injured, and ill Soldiers and Veterans and their families/caregivers. They conduct individual assessments to ascertain individual needs and requirements to effectively transition from military life to civilian life. They educate about and assist Wounded Warriors and their families/caregivers in navigating and applying for military programs, resources, and benefits for which they are eligible. They assist in the preparation of action plans utilizing a holistic care approach that serves the needs of Service Members and their families across all aspects of their lives (e.g., physical, spiritual, financial, etc.) – building a path to independence.

Tasks & Responsibilities:
  • Assistance and advocacy support to severely injured and ill Service Members and their families as they transition back to military service or into the civilian community.
  • Individual, non-clinical assessments to identify specific Soldier and family needs.
  • Intake, continued non-clinical assessments, recommendations, and follow-up for eligible individuals.
  • Assistance in the identification of eligibility for service-related entitlements and veterans’ benefits.
  • Assistance in gaining access to all medical and non-medical care management services to include: medical care, rehabilitation, education, employment-related programs and disability benefits.
  • Outreach to local resources and organizations in support of the AW2 mission and community education.
Minimum Required Skills, Education, Experience & Abilities:
  • High School Diploma /Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Army experience (Active Duty, Reserve, National Guard, or spouse) at the Senior NCO or Company Grade Officer level or above with technical assignments related to counseling, claims, or benefits-processing.
  • Knowledge of DOD and VA benefits and services.
  • Ability to interpret regulations and analyze documents to determine eligibility for benefits.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze material and make well-justified decisions from the analysis.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally with people of varying backgrounds.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively work with others in a team environment.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office suite of products and other software.
  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently at an accelerated pace, and proceed with objectives with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to provide compassionate support to wounded warriors and their families who are undergoing traumatic, possibly life-changing experiences.
  • Must be available to travel as required.
  • Up to 25% travel is required.
