General Description

The Academic Advisor functions as part of faculty advising. The advisor’s prime responsibilities focus on advisement of academic issues, including scheduling for students within the assigned major. He/she also assists in the academic advising training and serves as the primary academic resources for department faculty. This position focuses on communication and student follow-up.

Essential Functions and Basic Duties:
Advising all students on academic issues, including, but not limited to, majors, concentrations, transfer credits, courses needed, progress to graduation, and consequences of academic decisions

Assists students with understanding the colleges academic policies and procedures

Assisting with course registration

Assist with college wide retention of continuing students including outreach to potential returning students

Reviewing course equivalencies and relevancy to degree requirements for LIM College students taking courses at other colleges

Coordinating with other departments to aid in the resolution of academic requests and academic challenges

Stay abreast of curriculum changes and policy updates

Assisting in the development of advisement materials

Presenting, when requested, departmental information at Transfer Night Programs

Participating in all college wide programs

Assisting the department chairs on all ongoing academic advising projects

Communicating with parents (in accordance to FERPA laws) regarding academic issues

Performing other duties as assigned

Requirements

The person selected will have the following qualifications:
Minimum Required Qualifications:
Master’s Degree

Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

Minimum of two (2) – three (3) years of equivalent full-time employment

Knowledge of the Transfer Evaluation System (TES)

General Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in the field of Higher Education and/or Counseling

Knowledge of Business and/or Fashion Education

Experience in Academic Advising with college-age students

Good interpersonal and public relations skills

Solid analytical, creative, and problem-solving abilities

Project management skills and sound organizational skills

Able to work well independently
