This position serves as an Academic Advisor to student-athletes and Tutorial Coordinator. Will serve as a mentor to student-athletes, including those who are identified as academically at-risk. Additionally, this individual reports to and helps the Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Services oversee the daily operations of the Humphreys Academic Center for student-athletes.This position will provide academic support services to student-athletes. Will work with coaches, academic advisors, and other University constituents to facilitate success of assigned student-athletes. Act as a liaison to faculty, administrators, and coaches regarding student-athlete academic matters. Coordinate the development, collection, dissemination, review, and analysis of progress reports from faculty members. Communicate with campus academic advisors, deans, etc. for course selection. Assist in determining GPA and hours required to remain academically eligible for continued enrollment and/or for competition.Check class schedules of assigned student-athletes and help to resolve any problems or conflicts. Complete special projects requiring data collection, analysis, and interpretation.Will coordinate the Tutorial Program. Developing and presenting training workshops each semester for the tutorial staff. Advertise, train and hire all tutors, completing all necessary hiring paperwork. Coordinate and assign all individual and group tutoring appointments.Maintain a database of tutorial assignments, sessions and no-show reports. Actively recruit qualified tutors for the department. Schedule tutor sessions for student-athletes and ensure clear communication for tutor appointments. Conduct regular and effective evaluations on tutors and student-athletes. Perform Initial Eligibility Evaluations of prospective student-athletes. Understand that rules compliance is a critical element of this position and adhere to NCAA, Atlantic Sun and University rules, regulations and policies.Preference given to background in social work, education, counseling or a related field.Candidates must demonstrate leadership, organizational and communication skills and have the ability to work independently and as member of a team. Candidate must have experience working in an advising capacity on a college or university campus and/or experience working directly with collegiate student-athletes. Visibility of work requires attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and discretion with confidential information. Ability to work with diverse populations of faculty, staff, and students is required. Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule. The successful candidate will be a person of integrity with high educational standards and possess a solid commitment to academic integrity, the welfare of student-athletes, and full compliance with NCAA, Atlantic Sun and institutional rules and regulations.
