Accountant I, Fiscal Affairs (Full-time, 12-month AFSCME position) Tour of Duty: Monday-Friday, 8:45 AM-5:00 PM (Subject to Change) (Sat. and Sun. as days off) 1. Reviews, reconciles, analyzes, and interprets student accounts and cashier payments for Student Accounts statements to ensure conformance with established standards. 2. Reviews Student Accounts accounting procedures to ensure conformance with established reporting requirements. 3. Provides assistance to cashiers, employees, clients, state agencies, legislators, municipal, district, and/or county officials, and the general public to ensure compliance with agency laws, rules and regulations. 4. Interpret University, State and Federal laws, regulations, guidelines and procedures for Student Accounts. 5. Confers with University personnel and parents and students by telephone, in writing, or in person to resolve accounting discrepancies. 6. Perform related duties as assigned. *Initial assignment only. This is an AFSCME unit position and is subject to the terms of that union agreement.
Required Minimum Qualifications
1. Applicants must have at least one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in accounting or auditing, or two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, paraprofessional experience in accounting or auditing, or any equivalent combination of the required experience as specified in the state specifications. 2. Ability to analyze and determine the applicability of accounting data, to draw conclusions and to make appropriate recommendations. 3. Ability to perform mathematical calculations using formulae to solve accounting problems. 4. Ability to maintain accurate records. 5. Ability to communicate effectively in oral expression. 6. Ability to exercise sound judgment. 7. Ability to exercise discretion in handling confidential information. 8. Ability to deal tactfully with others. 9. Ability to work in a team setting.
1. Higher Education Student Account/Bursar Office experience. 2. Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel including spreadsheet creation & modification. 3. SCT Banner Student
