Supports the operations and activities of a major accounting section or function. Performs financial accounting and auditing work requiring considerable knowledge of governmental and fund accounting. Oversees and directs activities of accounting support personnel and prepares financial reports using sound accounting principles and procedures


Analyzes and interprets audit data and monthly and year-end financial reports of County functions or services and prepares audit work papers, opinions, findings and recommendations.

Prepares monthly journal entries, financial statements and reports, routine correspondence, and maintains records, files, and other documents in accordance with rules and regulations.

Plans monthly and annual close out accounting schedules and assists in the maintenance of accounts of the general fund or maintenance of funds for an assigned department.

Maintains the accounts of various funds and performs account balancing and reconciliations.

Pre-audits claims for payments from various funds and coordinates and supervises accounting support staff activities including reviewing financial documents and reports prepared by subordinates.

Responds to questions, complaints and requests for information.

Maintains knowledge of technical issues and principles in the accounting and/or auditing profession.

May oversee a specific accounting function or program such as the issuance and compliance monitoring of County purchasing card transactions.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or Public Administration, or related field; one year of experience in governmental or financial accounting, or a related field. A combination of training and experience above the minimum requirements will be considered
